On the Today Show this morning a guy used the Queen Mary II to propose to his partner while it is in dock in Sydney. He had a big banner 'Marry Me Jess?' hung from the side of it. But I want to know how the heck do you organise something like that? Is there a person on the ship that you ring, or is there an events organiser or something? I see these things happen and I wouldn't have the first clue where to start organising something like that.

I guess you would get an idea in your head and just start calling around, ask to speak to someone who would be able to tell you if they can or can't do it?
My cousin organised to take his now wife to the lion king here in Melb, he called ahead and told them his plans and they got him a special table and meal etc... all he had to do was ask.
LOL MD! No proposals here. I am just terribly curious as to how these extravagant things get organised. I don't think there is an ad in the yellow pages for it :lol:
I was going to say it probably would not be that hard. Romantic things like that always seem to get done as long as no major risk is involved. I would guess that the guy either knew someone involved with the QMII or he just rang, told his story and they helped him.
I reckon most companies would do it, a bit of romance and a proposal makes everyone warm and fuzzy. DH proposed in an expensive restaurant in Melb - he explained what he wanted when he made the reservation and the staff put us away from all the other diners and told him as the tables filled up near us, that he'd have about 15 minutes of privacy left. It was great. He just spoke to the person who picked up the phone. I reckon if you were to ring the phone number for the company offices as opposed to the bookings line, you'd be able to do it.
I happened to flick onto sunrise when they were interviewing the man. He has a friend who works for the company and he helped organise it for him. It was a plan tehy had been working on for months.
Ahhhh so there you go! You just need to know somebody in the know LOL. Thanks for that LIviam - the Today Show didn't actually interview the couple
My BIL organised a surprise for my husband for our wedding - so it wasn't romantic, it was more bro-mantic ;). He got the captain of the Australian cricket team to send a congratulations telegram to my DH to be read out at our reception - boring for some (including me *cough cough*) but as you can see from my user name, DH is obsessed. Basically my BIL just emailed everyone and anyone he could think of that had connections (it all comes down to connections Trillian!) and it lead to the wife of the captain, which resulted in the messaged being faxed to my BIL from a hotel room in Sri Lanka the night before our wedding, and then the original copy being posted to us when he returned to the country. Quite sweet, I thought!

The article says its a stunt, don't know if I'd define it as such - its a real proposal, its just that the company paid for the banner.
No actual proposal here either. Kind of nice to know I am not alone with that ;)
Every cruise ship has a celebrant on it, the captain can also marry people. Im a travel agent and we quite often get requests from people to getting married or renew their vows on a cruise. You would just have to get in contact with the main office from the Queen Mary 2 and they would be able to help you organise it. One of the girls at my work was proposed to at our global ball for work in Las Vegas in front of 7000 people that we work with! AMAZING!!!!
to organise a proposal on the movie ads you see in the cinema, apparently you just call the advertising company. DH reckons it is relatively cheap (he looked into advertising for a client - nothing romantic like a message to me!).
Call me the romance scrooge but I find public proposals a bit naff. I think most of the time its attention seeking rather than actually romantic.
DH proposed to me after we went on a hot air balloon ride. I was pretty positive he was going to and I was really pleased that he waited until it was just he and I together rather than in the rather tightly packed balloon basket full of meaningless strangers. He knew I'd always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon so combined it with a special adventure :)
I think that with public proposals the poor 'proposee' is like a deer in headlights - what if they want to say No? :o
