Midwifery group practice vs shared care?

SIL just sent me a text, I don't know the answer but I'm sure someone here does.

:

Got a call today from the midwifery group practice at mater... Apparently I need to decide pretty quickly if I want to go with them or with the shared care option... Do you know much about it?

What can you tell her?

ETA- it sounds like a birth centre, is that right?
She said they say you only stay 4- 24 hours, can you stay longer if you aren't ready to leave? Can they transfer you to the maternity ward if you aren't ready to leave? Or do they just boot you out?

I have been through the MGP twice now and highly recommend it! You see the same midwife for all appointments and all going well you will have her attend your birth as well as several post natal home visits. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten in the program with both babies as they are sought after and can't take everyone! I loved both my midwives and developed a great relationship with them. I also had their mobile numbers so they were only ever a phonecall away. Can you tell how much I love MGP :lol:

My hospital doesn't have a birth centre as such, everyone is on the same L&D ward. With Moo I had to stay overnight, Buster I was home the same day.

yes if you need to stay longer, you can. My latest MGP lady ended up staying almost a week because she needed to.

Oh definitely, as Traveller said already. I wanted to leave after a few hours with Moo but I lost quite a bit of blood so I had to stay. If there is any kind of need, they won't kick her out...it might just mean less home visits or something. With Buster I would've gone after a few hours but he was born just after midnight, so I was taken to postnatal to have a sleep!

Do mgp if she is eligible. I so wish I had of been. The middie I had at mater was horrid. At least with mgp u see a group of middies and 1 will e at your birth. I was just outside the area for it

Was her name D******? Lol I had her for two of my antenatal appointments, she was a snotty, know it all. Told me delayed cord clamping was dangerous and could kill my baby. :wall: (am I allowed to say that :hide:)

i'm doing mgp at ipswich hospital rather than shared care that i did with ds. Shared care was ok, cept i didn't like my midwife i had for labour. wish i had've gone mgp. looking forward to it this time!
