fundraising questions

My mum is currently in hospital and has been in for 2 weeks with a long way to go she is very unwell and will still be unable to work when she comes out both my parents do alot for their local community foster care, soccer, helping friends etc.

im trying to organise a few fundraising events. but have a few questions

do i need to set up a bank account in the fundraising name?

do i need to register it somewhere?

what ideas do other people have?


does it matter that im related to them and fundraising for them?

im just trying to help raise enough to cover the cost of fuel as its a 45 min each way to the hospital, groceries for the kids and my dad and help pay some bills, im looking to fundraise within their local community as they have put alot into it over the 25- 30 yrs they have lived there.

all feedback advice and ideas are welcome.

Setting up a separate bank account can always help - as then the money doesn't get lost in your personal one itms.

As for registering - I'm not 100% sure but you could approach local rotary/lions clubs to do it on your behalf.

I think it's a great thing you're doing and I'm sure the community will get right behind you

thank you so much for the advice and help. didnt even think of local lions clubs etc to help out. I was going to open a seperate account but wasnt sure if there was a special fundraising one rather then an everyday account??

I live so far away so cant help out with day to day stuff so need to my bit from afar. thanks for your kind words CMKM?

Sorry divvy, I didn't really know how it fitted home and money?? But I see it from your point of view now, sorry again.

I'd approach the local lions, rotary or apex club and also any that your parents were associated with ( like tennis, bridge, whatever)

Often the service clubs have funds sitting aside for families in exactly those circumstances. Also, having one of them supporting a fundraiser gives it a bit of legitimacy - there are lots of scams about these days and people can be a bit wary of random people fundraising no matter how good the cause is iykwim

As for a bank account - I think that it has to be in your name - but have fundraising after your name - each bank will be a fir different bur will be able to tell you - you need to pass the 100 points of Id check to open one and a fundraiser won't unless it is a registered charity.
