Did you drink alcohol at all during your pregnancies?

When i was pregnant with my DD i refused to have any alcohol. We went to a wedding when i was 18 weeks and i was the only sober person there. It was hard as my biggest craving was beer and working in a grog shop really didn't help the craving!

My last pregnancy again i refused to drink anything but i was constantly sick.

This pregnancy we went to his new work christmas party and not to be rude or let on that we were expecting i had half a glass of wine but that has been all i've had.

Nope never. And still not while breastfeeding. Being IVF pregnancies I was paranoid enough as it was.

Absolutely not. It took two years and many m/c's to get DD. Seeing as there is no proven safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy (regardless of what certain people, doctors etc say *they* think is okay), I was more than happy to go without for such a short time in my life.

Nope, not at all. I was offered plenty of wine at work functions, with the whole "Come on, I/my wife did and my kids are fine!" I just wanted to do whatever possible to help my baby - if something had happened and I'd drunk (whether it was related to that or not) I think I'd always blame myself you know?

I had a tiny sip when we announced the pregnancy to my family, but actually didn't really want any anyway. None since then. I normally have a regular glass of wine, but pregnancy seems to have put a stop to the desire and the enjoyment.

With DD1 I craved Guinness :lol: so I was allowed to have a small one once a week (with my OB's approval) - man I hung out for Friday evenings so I could have my craving satisfied. Funnily enough we found out we were pregnant after I picked up a pregnancy test in Dublin on our way home from a Guinness Brewery Tour - I wonder if that had something to do with it?

I havent yet, but the last few weeks it has been hard as I have been craving a beer...

we have a family joke (and please note this is a JOKE!! we all say it in humour and laugh and don't judge anyone who does do it) but in my mums 3 pregnancies with me and my 2 brothers she never touched a drop (which considering her drinking habits is pretty impressive) EXCEPT when she was pregnant with my middle brother, she had one mouthful of champagne to toast her parents wedding anniversary (I think it was their 30year or something) to this day, we always joke that that is what is wrong with my brother (nothing is wrong with him aside from a bit of dyslexia), but now when ever people ask me if i would like a mouthful of their drink (which happens a fair bit) my reason for saying no is "no way I don't want an E" (E = my brothers name). My brother knows we say it, so does my mum, neither are offended and laugh it off.

When I didn't drink at DH work xmas party I think people were sus, esp. seen as it was held in a different town just to go to this particular pub to drink at. But no one asked me why I wasnt drinking, really wasnt any of their business until we decided to make it official and tell them.

It is hard with our culture being so drink friendly and being what is expected of us, but you really don't have to justify to anyone if you arent drinking and its up to you if you tell them its because you are pregnant, or if you tell them you just don't feel like it or something else.

FAS (Fetal alcohol syndrome) is refered to as HIGH levels of alcohol. even though there is no set amount as to what makes it 'high' and how much is needed to cause it in your baby. because no 'safe' level has been determained its easier to just play it safe and say none at all.

I never really drink much at all, but when I was pregnant with the twins, I craved very cold white wine all the time. It was crazy. Very occasionally, I had half a glass and it was like heaven to me. Now, I have had them, I don't want it anymore and very rarely drink again.

With DS I had one mouthful of champagne for the toast at my bestie's wedding. Had to grit my teeth to swallow it as it tasted foul.....I've never been able to drink during pregnancy because of the way my tastes change.

I never did, but then I don't drink at all anyway so it wasn't like there was anything to stop doing in the first place LOL.

Yep. I had the (very) odd glass of champers or wine when in the last trimester with both boys. When I say odd, I mean it was pretty rare that I drank it ... but I had my then-obstetrician's full consent providing it was just one glass very occasionally. My biggest issue with it is that it gave me reflux!

None since I found out at 4 1/2 wks. (In hindsight I had a few glasses of wine in the weeks prior to that after months of abstinence because my FS had told me my uterine lining was too thin to get pregnant that month - go figure!) Not missing drinking at all at the moment but I think I will go back to having an occasional drink after the birth even if I am breast feeding.

Yes. I had one a week. Occasionally two if it was a special occasion over several hours (like Christmas - one with lunch & one with dinner).

I have a drink every now & then now even though I'm BF but I wait until after dinner so DD is either alseep or nearly there & only have one or two.
