I've been TT my daughter 2.5yrs for 2 mths now - if I tell her to go the toilet she will generally have a wee success - poo is really hit and miss. But my concern is she is not saying she needs to go to the toilet. But I'm also concerned that if I start to just ask her if she needs to go then we will start having accidents. So what is best, she is happy to go when I tell her to but is she relying on me or will it all just click?
My DD is a strong-willed little thing - when we first started, she wouldn't tell me and I had to watch the clock a little bit - I'd let her get too 2hrs and then take her. This was from about 2.5 to 3 - it is only recently that I feel comfortable letting her tell me when she needs to go.
My DD is into everything and very easily distracted, so I found she would often forget. But she's got it now :)
I kept on taking mine until he started doing it on his own so my advise is keep doing it until they show signs that they are ready
Neither. I made them tell ME when they felt like they needed to go. It gave them the power and it also seemed to teach them a lot quicker to learn the full bladder = wee feelings and to head to the toilet.
I did this with both children and they TT'd VERY quickly.
A combination, if just lazing around at home, let DD tell me when wants to go, but I ask her if she wants to before going out or when out if we are at a convenient location - because as an adult that is what I do, I don't always wait till I 'need' to go, I go before going out or if am near a toilet and think might not be near one for a while, go before bed etc. Have also started asking her if needs to go before we sit down to eat - because fed up of getting up mid meal to take her to the loo - she has been TT'd 5 months or so now but did the same from the start.
