Spirit Of Tasmania + a 4 year old and 4 month old...good idea??

So, one of my sisters and I are contemplating going to see our parents and 2 other sisters who live in Tassie...

Now, obviously I will be taking the girls!

Has anyone travelled on The Spirit with a 4 yr old and a bubs??

We will be staying in a cabin, so have our own bathroom etc.

Will travel at night, so hopefully both kids will pass out!

Taking my car so don't have to worry bout car seats etc!

Tis weird, I'm a lil nervous doing it. Keep thinking about *what ifs*

What if we have a medical emergency?!

What if the kids AND me get sea sick!

What if we hit an iceberg! hahahahaha @ that one

Ohhh I so wanna do it!

My dad hasn't met my newest girl!

Any advice? Experiences???

Been over and back on the boat with a 1yo and an almost 4yo.

You are doing the right thing by having a cabin at night (that was the first thing I was going to suggest when I read your thread title). I have had a couple of friends with kids who had day bookings and changed to night for the return trip.

Really it is not much drama, you go to sleep, wake up and drive off the boat. The biggest pain is the wait in line, thankfully there are toilets in the waiting areas. Just don't leave the car for too long, we almost lynched a guy who walked off for over an hour, so our lane could not move when needed.

Food is expensive on the boat, so if you do want to eat at the buffet. Just have the adults grab a plate and pile it up to share with the kids. For brekky, we just found the nearest Macca's in Devonport once we got off.

As for seasickness, maybe take some tablets before hand. I was taking ginger tablets. Due to the time of night, I just went to bed with the 1yo and the boat rocking put her to sleep. We found that we shared the bottom bunks with the kids, even though we had ordered a cot.

We went over with a 10mo. Because it was at night, it was really easy. She fell asleep as we took off and woke up as we got into Devonport and visa-versa. We had tea on the boat and then went to our cabin (we had a delux suite, it had an ensuite and was larger than a normal room, but you wouldn't be able to have that 2 kids)
We got a portacot, which was 'ok', you are only allowed to take your overnight bag on the boat. Everything else must stay in the car and once you leave the car you can't go back.
I loved it and we're planning to do the boat again in about 5 years.
I'm not a big fan of boats, but it was great. There was a storm warning when we came home so it got a big rough during the night, but nothing drastic.

I have done the trip on one NYE! and was bought some drinks ... and within about an hour I was sooooo sick, throwing up badly, that the staff had to go get a wheelchair!

The good thing was, we got a cabin for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! hehehe

Who knew right? lol throw up a bit and here...have a cabin!

eek...so hope the girls don't get seasick!
