A bit worried this is going to be a huge issue

I noticed yesterday DD1 (who is 3.5) was trying to stick a pencil up her vagina. She loves being naked, and being in queensland, we just let her go with it. I told her not to stick it up there, and said that it was an out hole (for the moment - till she's like, 30...or something) and that things don't go up there.

Then this morning, DH walked into the bedroom and caught the end of a conversation with DS (5 years) telling her to "stick it up your vagina".

When I wiped her before (poo in undies) I noticed that her vagina now has a hole, and I'm guessing she has maybe broken some of her hymen away!??! I'm a bit scared because I know if there have been accusations of sexual abuse, thats what they look for, and I can absolutely without a doubt say that there has been NOTHING of the sort happen to her at ALL - and it looked normal yesterday.

Should I take her to a doc? I'm scared just in case they get the wrong idea :(

Most little girls break their hymen naturally anyway through bike riding, monkey bars etc or experimenting so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I would be more concerned about getting her to stop doing the sticking things up it, but I don't have any advice about that, sorry :hug:

I wouldn't worry unless its actually sore or bleeding. most kids do that sort of exploring of their bodies, I think you handled it really well. her knowing that she could hurt herself is the most import thing. and yep, most girls hymns are broken by the time they actually have sex, I know mine was,so its not a big deal if she has and that alone certainly couldn't be seen as evidence of sexual abuse.

gah, don't you just hate these awkward parenting moments!

DD does a lot of exploring of her vagina too. Occasionally she has tried to put things up there, but we had a discussion about how delicate that part of her body is, and how easy it is to get hurt, and she seems to be more gentle now. But still fascinated. What does DS know about vaginas? Does he know that eventually things get put up there, or was he guessing?

I think I told you about DD1. She stuck a fork in her vagina while I was in the loo once *cue panic* and after she calmed down from the pain tried to stick biscuits in there! All my DDs seem to have a little fascination but nothing like DS and his penis :wall: I'm waiting for genitals to be boring.

I think you handled it well. Nothing more you can do IMO other than explaining you have to be gentle and not put things up there.

A friend of mine DD used to 'ride' the arm of the couch (she was a bit older though) so I guess it's all exploration, which is pretty normal so it seems.

DD3 has just learnt where hers is... & is always trying to put things in there (though not up yet). Food, bobby pins, pencils...

DS & his penis though. Wow! I swear he must think its going to fall off if he lets go of it :rolleyes: He seriously just sits on the lounge watching telly with it all in his hand. No playing, just holding.
