Kids travelling alone

X has asked if he can fly the 2 older girls to him, would I let them go. It'd be a 5 or so hour flight from Perth to Sydney.
Whats the deal with kids flying alone? I was told he'd have to pay extra for a chaperone? Is that right? And can I put them on the plane myself? Or walk them to the gate at least... Does the chaperone stay with them til they are safely with him?
I was also told he'd need ID to collect them?

I don't know how I feel about it at all, but I need to know all the details before I even consider it...

I was about 8/9 and we lived in QLD and dad lived in NSW and he flew us down. This is over 20 yrs ago but basically mum took us to the airport and at the gate an air hostess looked after us. She sat us in our seats and gave us some kiddie packs to keep us entertained. The plane didn't seem full as we had a row with just the 2 of us. Dad met us at the other end.
In saying that it is only an hour flight.

Maybe have a look at some major airlines website as they may have their policy online?

I think I could do it, being only that far. Its a bit nerve wracking though... I only just got on my first plane 4 months ago :lol:

Hi Hun, only Qantas and virgin Australia accept unaccompanied minors. Qantas do not charge any extra but virgin charge around $30 more each way. You need the name, address, phone number and relationship to. Hold for both the person dropping off and the person collecting. The air hostee will not release the child until photo Id can be shown by both. I book around 5 unaccompanied minors each week so it's pretty common. X

Personally, at this stage, I would not be letting him have them.

You are with them until the minute they get on the plane, you have to sign them over to the attendant, the designated/nominated person (with relevant ID) has to sign for them on the other side. They are escorted and watched the whole time, they are usually sat at the back, all the unaccompanied kids are sat together.

Personally I'd be waiting until there are court orders in place, because if he doesn't put them on the plane to come back, you're stuffed because you have no legal leg to stand on to get them back.

I was going to say what N2L said. Don't put them on a plane until you have a document saying he has to return them. And let him go and apply for those documents.

I've picked up and dropped off my niece as an unaccompanied minor. They'll ask for the details of the people doing the pick-up and drop off in both directions and you will need to show ID.
You can change the details of the adult up to a few hours before the flight.

I was already thinking about that stuff. I haven't said yes either, for that reason.

At the same time, I'm trying to avoid court orders for as long as possible so he can't convince them to make me move back there, which I think he's considering doing. That would require time & effort better spent drinking though, so I can't see it happening unless I really **** him off :rolleyes: Anything is worth it if its out of spite.
