Need advice on age gaps....

We currently have a nearly 4 year old and a 3 month old baby. My husband is keen to start trying for our 3rd as soon as possible but I am scared that anything less than a 2 year age gap will be absolute madness!
The 4 year gap between my first two has been great. The eldest is kind of self sufficient in the sense that he can entertain himself nicely while I'm tied up with the baby and of course there's no extra nappies, toilet training, sleep issues etc. etc.
We fall pregnant really easily so I'm not wanting to stop birth control until I'm really sure. I do love the idea of having the next 2 close together in age but I just can't imagine having a 12 month old and a new baby. It scares the bejesus out of me!!! I absolutely love those toddler years and I don't want to miss a second of that with my 2nd child.
Those of you that have a small age gap between your kids, how did you cope? Would you do it again if you could have the time over or do you think a bigger age gap would have been better?
Any advice/experiences greatly appreciated!

I have 18 months and 4 days between my 2 and would not have it any other way.
Yes its crazy and busy and they fight lots but they also love each other and can play well together!!

I wanted a 3rd and would have had the same gap again but DH does not want a 3rd.

my age gap is 16 months and i love it. it was super hard at first, I'm not going to lie, but now i think it is perfect and i would definitely do it again.
i think the perfect age gap is between 18 months and 2 years, but that is my personal opinion.

I have a 21 month age gap and it is great!
Of course it was hard at times (but this will eb the case with any age gap) - but overall I love the age gap. they play nicely together, are best mates but also have their differences so it isnt like dealing with twins!
For me I couldnt do 12 month difference but i am sure if you did it'd be super hard work for a while but amazing when they are older.
i guess there isnt a perfect gap - but i would recommend what i have LOL

I'm with you and wouldn't want an age gap under 2 years. If you don't think you want it and you want more time between babies then I'd say wait. We have 2yrs 8mths between ours and I dont' want anything less than that next time.

i am only new to this with a 21month age gap, and atm it is really hard. My older child is fairly intense/high needs/spirited and my newborn has reflux so this influences my point of view. I think it will get easier as they get older.

I've got 17months between my DDs and it was hard at first and I still have times now where I wonder what I was thinking but then I see them interacting together and I wouldnt have it any other way :D

My DD was 19mths old the day after the twins were born and yes life is very busy but now they all play together and entertain themselves. The way I look at it is that I do all the baby stuff at one time and then they will grow together and *hopefully* they will all be great friends growing up as they are so close in age.
