When did you start discussing names?

DH and I picked out two boys names before we even got married, and one of those is going to be this baby's name should we have a boy. Now we've thought of a third boys name, but cannot agree on a girl!

When did you start discussing, looking at names etc? We did as soon as I got a BFP.

DH likes Allannah, Keira and Tayla. I don't mind Tayla.. but I find them a bit.. blergh.

I like Kaya (pronounced Kye-ah), Claire, Kate/Katie, Grace for a middle name, and Audrey.

We both like Isla, but DH refuses to have that as someone we see once a year has a 5 year old name Isla :| we also both like a lot Middle Eastern names for girls, I just need to get DH past his belief that junior will be segregated/judged/general Muslim misconceptions etc for having a Middle Eastern name. We have a VERY English surname so IMO it's a non-issue.

Suggestions? Not really into made up names and not overly fussed whether they'll have the same name as another child in their class etc.

With DD1 we had a girl and Boy name picked after the 20w scan, then changed out minds when she was born, but she was named with in an hour LOL, with DD2 same boy name, could not come up with any girl names and she was nameless for a week till something stuck (it was completely new never been on our lists), Bellybabe, same boy name again... girl names... not even going there yet, will wait and see what we are having and if we need to think about it. I was soooooo prepared with DD1 books and lists and shortlists of lists.. this time i kind of Meh, we will find something even if we get to know him/her for a few days first.

"We" don't discuss names at all. I'm a bit of a control freak so like to have everything planned ahead of time, even if that's only going as far as having two or even three on a definitive short list. My DH is a serious non-planner and doesn't believe you can even consider names until after you see the baby. He never likes what I like so its difficult and frustrating. I have a feeling this baby could be nameless for some time - the thought of which drives me a wee bit nuts.

We've been discussing them now with two boys names picked but the girls name is proving trickier. We did have Keira but DH has had a change of heart, so now we are trying out names on each with most vetoed....

We were discussing names even before we discussed TTC! It was more just "this is a good name" and not a serious discussion though. As soon as we officially decided to TTC, we started discussing names seriously. I'm glad we did because it took months to agree on anything. We ended up deciding on names before I got my BFP.

We had a few boys names from the beginning, and one set girls name.

At about 35 weeks I decided to come up with a back up girls name just in case. I had a list of about 5 that DH approved or vetoed. We decided on a second name, then out for dinner a week before I was due to give birth, we chatted about our favourites for a boy or girl, and we both admitted we liked the back up girls name more.

When DD was born on fathers day, DH got the final choice, so back up name became chosen name!!

last time round we agreed on a girl's name around 30 weeks (from memory)...but we had a boy! we finally agreed on his name within about 12 hours of him being born :lol: this time we still have the girl's name & spoke for about 5 minutes about a boys name about 4 weeks ago when i downloaded a baby name app for my phone. now we have about 3 weeks to go & still no boys name. fingers crossed it's a girl!!

I have had my boys name for as long as I remember and luckily my DH didn't put up a fight but he did for the girls name I have always liked so we came up with one together.... :)

I don't think we'll set anything in stone so to speak, but we've got our 3 very different boys names that we love, so when we meet if a boy we'll then choose one of those.

It would be nice to find a girls name that we both go 'Oh, I like that' so we can keep it mind. It took us over 2 weeks to name our dogs, so I think we're those kind of people who would have an unnamed child for weeks if we don't have some kind of shortlist haha

I had a girls name chosen around 8-9 weeks and a boys name by 15 weeks. My DD had the final choice!

My next task is deciding which last name to use. Mine or the baby's fathers

each time we started discussing names early on the pregnancy. ds1 and ds2 we were settled on their name half way through the pregnancy.
this thrid one though is much more difficult and with a few weeks to go we have some names but not decided on any of them, which is stressing me out!!

I like Keira and i would speek Kyah that way, i think its also a nice name and not too common.
instead of Tayla what about Tylah?? that was doing to be ds1 or ds2 name had they have been a girl.

I had a boy name picked at 13 and used it when i had ds at 18.5 :)....dd1 was after we found out we heard a lady call for her dd and we looked at each other and was like, thats it...ds2 i had other names picked from the beginning but kept coming back to his name dd2 name was pick when we were thinking of girl names before we knew the gender of ds2, and have had a girl name picked since dd2 that i really love but dh wouldnt let me change dd2 name as its the only one hes picked, and i was lying on the couch when a middle name to go with it popped into my head, so hoping this ones a girl, always found i could only really settle on a name for the gender i was having, so maybe i knew subconciously

I picked names when I was 12 :rofl: DH and I have a few names for girls and boys all ready, haven't used them for our sleeping bubs because we don't know their genders. But we've come up with certain 'rules' for naming our bubs, we did it when we were still courting I think :)

I'm still thinking of names I like and DS is about to turn 1 :rofl:

With Liebling, we started discussing names about 4-5 months before conception. We're currently discussing names for Stormy, although not in a very focussed way, just in a "that's a nice name" sort of way.

Having said that, with Liebs we had the boy name picked at about 12w, but post-dates still didn't have the girl name picked. So it's a good thing we're starting very, very early with Stormy!

When we began TTC. The middle names changed a bit, but we had one of each picked out from when we first started trying. Now, we don't really like the boy name anymore and have a new one we love and will use, but no second girls name.

We discussed names a few times during first trimester (mostly just vetoing each others picks) but have been holding off having a serious discussion until we find out the gender (hopefully in just over a week.)

With DS it was around 10 weeks or so we started throwing out suggestions and checking the meanings etc. Had both girls name and boys name picked by the 20 week scan and found out we were having a boy. Middle name got changed in the last trimester.

Now going to be TTC again in a few months time, already toying with boys names, still love our unused girl's name
