Hi ladies, I am really just looking for some positive results from anyone who had success on a second round of IUI. My first cycle failed even though everything looked perfect so I am hoping that we are not just wasting a heap of money for nothing.

My FS steered us away from iui we have some sperm issues but nothing major and so all my paperwork is now unexplained...
Have you spoken about ivf?
Not wanting to be negative for you but for us FS said put your money to ivf.
Hopefully someone can give you some more advice.
Thanks joeve, my FS just have me all the % of success for all the different treatments, said any of them could work but IVF would be the quickest but the most invasive and it was up to us. We have decided that if this fails we will do IVF but now I am starting to think I am just wasting time (and funds) with the IUI. Feeling all very confused again. I am hoping that AF holds out until my appointment with the FS on Monday so I can speak with him before starting any treatment for this cycle.

I don't have a positive story :-( I had three unsuccessful rounds of IUI and did two rounds of IVF and have fallen pg on the second IVF round. I found the IVF process to be much better, even though more invasive than IUI. I found IUI to be really hit & miss, and everytime it was a miss for us. I found that my body would want to ovulate naturally prior to the clinic picking up that my LH was surging, so I felt we always missed the opportunity. Having said that, I know of two people personally that had straight up success with IUI. You really need to weigh up the pros & cons of both & looking back I should have gone straight to IVF, but hey hindsight is a wonderful thing. I guess the thing I found with IVF is that they are selecting the best sperm (as they do in IUI) but the best egg too and make sure the egg fertilises & puts it in your womb. In IUI they just grow your egg/s to a size to trigger then hope that the egg & sperm meet.... something to think about anyway. Best of luck xx
I had unexplained IF for 1.5 years, first IUI was a success that turned into a m/c, two more IUI's failed, then success in IVF. *hugs*
hi mrs mac - like joeve, my initial FS wanted us to go straight to ivf (we are unexplained also). i was a bit hesitant as we were 'unexplained', so i did 2 x IUI's before ivf. niether were successful, but i was kind of glad to ease myself in to assisted conception with IUI first. gave me some time to wrap my head around the AC lingo, procedures, scans etc.
i know the stats arent as good for IUI, but it does work for some people. goodluck with whichever you decide. :)

hi there,just about to start iui a second time.i'm 38,husband 37,unexplained infertility.
have two children who were conceived naturally but took a while.would love to have a 3rd.don't feel our family is complete.
just wondering is it worth going for a third time for iui if this doesn't succeed or should we move onto ivf.cost is a big issue for us.
Mary Mc we only ever tried IUI the one time before moving onto IVF. From my experience the IVF was a better choice as cost wise we were not out of pocket that much more doing the IVF (only cost us a few hundred dollars more out of pocket) and the success rate was much much higher. IVF also provides more information on your fertility as they can see how the sperm and egg work together, our infertility was unexplained but when we did the IVF we only has 5 out of 27 eggs fertilise. While we still don't know why our fertility rate was so low we at least know what the problem is now. I think a lot is still left up to chance with the IUI and while at the time IVF seemed like a very scary thing I am now looking down at my 8 week old daughter and all needles and hormones and surgery are a very distant memory. think we will go for ivf if this fails.will be a while though because we will have to save first.so down now about it all
Try not to be down because Although it quite expensive you still have options and IVF is a huge bump in success rates. I think our doctor said we had around 10% chance with IUI and 50% with IVF. So while its more expensive to pay upfront (most of its covered my Medicare) the chance of it working is hugely increased.
