Laparoscopy recovery time & working :)

I'm booked in for a laparoscopy to remove an ovarian cyst. For people who have had one, how long did it take you to recover? I'm a bit worried because I have a 2 year old who likes jumping all over me :\

Also I may have to work for 5 hours on the Saturday after the lap, which I'm having on the Thursday. (So, planning to work 2 days after).
It's just desk work for the most part and it's only 5 hours.... Do you think that would be okay or would it be too soon??

Would love to hear from anyone who has had a lap!

It might be fine, it really depends - everyone's a bit different with these things. Mine was only exploratory - so no actual surgery beyond the opening up and closing - and I needed a day or 2 before returning to work.

I took almost a week off - I had several holes and endo removed and long surgery time so may be different.

Mine was exploratory too but I ended up taking almost a week, as I reacted to the GA.

You may need a little more recovery time if you're having surgery.

On the other hand, plenty of people have been back up and about in a couple of days.

If possible, could you arrange for a colleague to be a 'back-up' for you in the Saturday, just in case?

I was back at work 4 days after my first one, but with the second one it was 3 weeks before I could even bend over without pain. I wouldn't be working 2 days afterwards that's for sure! You will still be pretty sore around the incision sites so if you did go in, you'd have to take it very easy.

My recovery was fairly good. I had slightly sore shoulder, which is a usual side affect but my tummy was very sore and tender for about a week afterwards. The stitches were pulling alot and it made is very uncomfortable to sit (I work at a desk). I'd probably not work 2 days after surgery myself but everyone has different pain and recovery thresholds. Mine was exploratory, but it took about 4 days for me to get back to normal. The gas for me was a shocker and caused a lot of pain. But everyone is different, I know people up and about the next day with minimal fuss.

I was back in the normal swing of things pain wise within two days.. but it was the recovery from the anesthetic that was really hard. It took me about 4 days to feel normal again, I just felt constantly tired.

Thanks all, I think the best idea as Buffy1 suggested is to have someone as 'back-up' for me just in case, so if it turns out that I'm still feeling crap I can call them on Friday afternoon so they can fill in for me.
