have Huskies but really need to give them away....any ideas?

So we have two huskies. One boy (de-sexed) one girl, (not de-sexed). The boy is about 6 and a half and the girl is about 7 (in human years, have no idea how much that is in dog years ? :lol:)
So we really have not had any time to take them for walks or do anything with them and I feels so bad because although they have a huge yard and have each other and lots of toys etc they really need more interaction and walks etc. We don't go in the backyard because they just jump all over you so my 2.5 year dd doesn't really get the benefit of playing with them either. They are harmless but they just love jumping and being rumbunxious (sp?)
Anyway with one on the way and wanting to move to a smaller place it's completely unfair to drag them along with us so I was wondering whether you know of any humane ways to give them away to someone who would love them and treats them well and take them for walks etc.
We don't want to seperate them either.... any ideas ?

Have you tried advertising them, there are quite a few pet sites or your local newspaper, hope you find them a very loving home.

Often there are specific breed rescue groups, you could google to see if you could find a Husky one.

Another option is to contact the breeder you got them from. Sometimes they have other pet lovers who are after an older animal.

I would find a specific Husky rescue organization (Not sure where you are but if you have a google I know there are at least a couple..can't think of their names off the top of my head), or a local rescue organisation. They are probably swamped with animals anyway, but if you are able to you could tell them you are willing to 'foster' them until a more suitable home can be found.
I would be very careful trying to rehome by classified ad, gumtree, the trading post etc (especially if they will be free to good home). The male is desexed which is a good thing, and although the female is really reaching the end of her breeding lifetime, a puppy farmer may think well there's an opportunity to at least try and get one or two litters out of her.. You also run the risk of unknowingly handing them over to an animal hoarder.
There's an article on Pet Rescue about what to look for when rehoming an animal, might not hurt to have a read of that and see what they suggest. If you can't find it via google let me know and I'll pm you the link.

firstly, the kindest thing to do would be to get the female desexed before you rehome her. otherwise you run the risk of someone using her as a breeding machine.
i agree that contacting a specific husky rescue organisation is the best thing to do because they know the most about the breed and can match them well with their future family.
don't put your dogs on gumtree, there have been lots of recent incidents of people advertising their dogs on gumtree (particularly free to good home ones) where they are snapped up by illegal dog fighting rings who use the dogs as bait dogs. very horrific.

Oh thanks girls ! It's really playing on my mind and I don't want to give them to anyone who would ever mistreat them....I can't believe people could do that to innocent animals.....the thought makes me so mad and sad at the same time !

The reason we didn't get the girl de-sexed was because she got a grass seed stuck in her paw and it gave her such grief we did't want her to be in pain from having been desexed as well. We kind of just never followed it up.....aaah life gets in the way sometimes :redface:

The first point of call is the breeder, if they were a registered breeder as opposed to a puppy farmer.
Otherwise, Pet Rescue Australia lists dogs from different rescue centres. You can get a list off them. You will need to keep looking after the dogs until a suitable home can be found. You also need to help prepare them for adoption.

Some basic training will stop them jumping and make them more sociable and adoptable.

puppy farmers love undesexed female huskies. they are such attractive looking puppies, they can make heaps of money off them.

The breeder we got our dog from will take any dog she has bred back for rehousing no matter their age, training, de-sexing etc. Its something I think most responsible breeders will do so I think that should be your first point of call. At their ages they're getting on, but not enough that they wouldn't still make great pets for someone. Otherwise, investigate the animal shelters that have a policy of looking after the dogs for as long as it takes to rehome them. If all of that fails, then IMO you would be doing the dogs a kindness by taking them to the vet and having them put down humanely.

I second everyone else's comments about NOT using gumtree or similar. Truly horrible stuff happens to furbabies.

Talk to the local huskie rescue, they will be able to rehome them with people who have had huskies in the past and know their idiosyncrasies

Even if you decided to keep the dogs, I would seriously recommend getting your girl desexed. The more heat cycles a female has, the greater the risk of her developing a pyometra. A pyometra is an infected uterus. During a heat cycle the cervix opens and bacteria can get in. The cervix then closes and the bacteria thrive and the entire uterus swells with pus. Often there is not even any discharge and a lot of the time the dog doesn't become symptomatic until it's too late. If the uterus bursts it's pretty much a death sentence :( I've seen many pyometras in my time at the clinic and it's heartbreaking. Also, the longer a female is undesexed, the greater her risk of developing mammary tumours as well.

I second all the recommendations of contacting the breeder as a first point of call, and then a Husky specific rescue group. They understand Huskys and what they need in a home. Best of luck!
