WWYD if the party child was sick?

Argh.... So it is DS's birthday tomorrow, we are having a party at the park tomorrow BUT he is sick. There is no getting around it :(
He has had a sore throat since Tues, took him to Dr's on thurs and got the all clear. he now has this persistent annoying little cough - you know the one where anything seems to tickle your throat so you cough every 5 mins!!!
So do we call everyone and cancel? Do we postpone? How would you feel going to a party where the birthday child was coughing everywhere?

i'd call everyone and let them make the decision. is he well enough to enjoy the party? will the outdoors ie wind/rain/heat/sun make him feel worse? Also, do you think he's contagious?
people might not be happy if he's sick and they take sickness home, particularly if they have a new bub or a frail or elderly person to see/care for iykwim so i think it best to be upfront and let people know.
maybe you can postpone? poor little darling, being sick at your party would suck!

i would say postpone, its one thing to have it and not know he was sick at the time but another to know he is sick and still go ahead, i wouldn't be happy to turn up and find out then.

I have postponed birthday parties twice in recent years, for reasons of illness. Rescheduling can be a bit of a pain, because my lot tend to have birthdays in busy months. Usually the party has ended up being 3 or so weeks after the event, but the birthday child has never minded. We always have a nice dinner and presents and cake (ie a "family party") at home on their actual birthday. :)

I would postpone. Nothing is much fun if you're sick.

We postponed DS's last year as he was sick, and then DH got really sick. I just messaged everyone on FB and sms'd asking them to reply to the message to make sure they got it. We rescheduled for the week later with no worries. Hope he is feeling better soon and he will enjoy his party much more if he isn't unwell. :hug:

Depends how unwell he is actually feeling as well..

Let everyone know and if you find most people aren't wanting to go, then postpone it.. For me personally, most parties my kids go to are from daycare, so they are likely to get the illness from their friends anyhow, and I have never let it bother me (but I always warn others before we meet up, so they can decide for themselves).

When you say doctor gave him all clear do you mean doc said is not contagious? We went to docs nearly four weeks ago both mine coughing doc said coughs can last for weeks and weeks, both still cough a little and have been back to doctors with ear infections, doc checked chest and not concerned with that or coughing, said not likely to still be contagious - so cough could last forever. A little tickly cough in an otherwise well child would not bother me, what with tickly coughs and runny noses you would never get to meet up with anyone. If I were you and he was well but with a little tickly cough, I would prob go ahead with party, but maybe warn anyone with a new born.

I tend to use the would I go to work rule, imagine I have same symptom as kid and if I would stay home from work, then I wouldn't go out etc if I would go to work then carry on as normal.

I would postpone. I wouldn't be very happy if I took my little one and she got sick. If you decide to go ahead then calling everyone in advance is probably the best option :)

I wouldn't postpone for a non contagious cough if he was otherwise well and looking forward to the party.

His eyes are glassy and he has almost no appetite and no energy. He didn't really have the cough when we went to the dr and I think I might have to go back before I send him to childcare next week. He had that cough for weeks last year too but as we seem to be at the beginning I think it's best to postpone for the tomorrow.
Ironically a few of the parents said their children woke this morning with coughs too :dunno: must be something that is going around.

with glassy eyes and no appetite I would definitely cancel. Poor wee soul, I hope he feels better soon.

With the new symptoms you have listed, I too would cancel/postpone.. But wouldn't have automatically done so fir the previous ( just gave the attendees a heads up to make their own call)..
