DD1 is still vomiting at night (gastro)! Help!

DD1 had a terrible bout of gastro over the weekend but mainly on Saturday - from 1am to 10.30pm. We had a quick trip to the childrens hospital where she got the all clear and they told us the vomiting could last a couple of days but to resume a normal diet as soon as she was ready including milk.

She was tired and off her food on Sunday but appeared to be getting better but vomited late that night, well after having a small bottle. It was all milk :(

We figured she was just still fighting the bug and after a long day of snoozing yesterday (Monday - both DH and I wound up with it too Sunday night and Monday), we let her have a small bottle of milk again at bed time. That came back up a few hours later too. :(

She seemed to be back to her old self yesterday (Tuesday) and was playing well, eating well (all things considered) and tolerated a small amount of milk with her afternoon nap so we were sure the bug had finally gone. Well she just threw up again :( I just want to cry, for her and us. This is horrible. She didn't even have milk at bed time, only the small amount at her arvo nap. We offered rice milk but she fell asleep as soon as we gave her the bottle and when I checked on her later, she hadn't had any.

My heart is breaking for her, she's so over it and so confused. So are we. Why is this happening???

We'll take her to the GP today although I'm not sure what they can do given she's ok during the day now. Has anyone experienced anything similar? We were sure it was the milk but it can't be just that after the most recent episode.

Sometimes you just have to wait it out unfortunately. If she is back to herself during the day then she is probably not far away from better xx

Gastro is the worst thing I've had to deal with. It's a bugger. Took my DS1 a week to get completely back to normal.

Hope she's near the end of it.

How's her hydration? Sometimes their tummies get really sensitive after a bug, and she might only tolerate bland foods for a while.

Yes, this happened to my DD last week, started last monday, then was fine by tuesday, then was sick again tues night, was fine weds, but sick again thurs and then fri night, it just went on and on. Hope your dd is better soon, it is so horrible to watch :(

Thanks girls, it's looking like we do just have to ride it out. My ER nursing friend said the same as did Dr Google (was googling from 12.30-3am!). We'll still take her to the GP today just to make sure nothing else is going on and see if there is anything we can do to help. I'm wondering if anti reflux meds might help :dunno:

DD has just popped into my room and is perfectly fine again. She's asked for a bottle and toast! I think we'll hold off on the bottle, just in case.

Both DH and I are shattered and very much over vomit and washing!

Milk is pretty hard on a recovering tummy unfortunately, I distinctly remember as a kid if a complained of feeling sick my Mum would say well the quickest way to get better is drink some milk to be sick and get it over with. Ever so sympathetic my mum :rolleyes:

It's awful isn't it? My DD had a particularly nasty one around this time last year and unfortunately you do just have to wait it out. I think it took a good 7-8 days to be fully out of my DD's system. I'd also hold off on the milk for now and make sure she is regularly sipping water or even some very watered down juice. The hydralite icypoles are great for littlies too. I hope you are all better soon hun, there are some nasty bugs out there :(

Touch wood but it looks like we are finally free of the bug!! :leap:

DD didn't spew last night and seems good today and DH has gone back to work thrilled that he's lost 3kg :rofl:

Oh I hope this week is MUCH better and that DD is on the road to recovery.

I felt the same way after our gastro as your DH, I hated every moment of it and it was hell but I did loose 4kg.
