Hey my DD is 4.5months old. She is having major trouble sleeping during the day. Nothing I do seems to comfort her. Top this off with reflux and colic... And teething. Whoa. Not a happy camper.
Anyway. How many mummas have used rescue sleep on their babies? How did you give it to bubs?

Poor bubba must be very uncomfortable. I've always found that when things are like that, there's not much you can do but just try and ride it out. Do you wear her at all? Sometimes a sling works wonders.
Is it a baby-specific product you're looking at?
I use Rescue Sleep for myself and have given it to my 3 year old but haven't tried it with a young baby. What about trying Chamomilla? It's for teething and colic. I've used it for both my boys and believe it's safe (my parents gave it to us as children too!). The container says for children under 12 yrs give two pilules under the tongue, but for my 6 month old (who has silent reflux and is teething!) I put one pilule under his tongue and then give him his dummy to suck. You can get it from health food shops.
Hope she becomes settled soon.

Madb I don't know if it is marketed for use on small babies. And yes, it appears chiro hasn't helped unfortunately. I've had one very unsettled baby girl today. :(
And I've used it with success on myself, I have a wrap but she doesn't seem comfortable in it. She still screams.

Tbh if she's that unsettled due to a number of things, I doubt that rescue remedy would work :(
I'd maybe see a naturopath...or osteo
I wouldn't use it for a small bub, i know someone who has used it with a toddler and it didn't do anything.
I think you just need to ride it out, and give the chiro a chance, she has only been once or twice hasn't she, as difficult as it may be.
Have you got someone who can help you during the day, so if the crying gets too much, you can have a break?
I havent been in your shoes, but it is unfortunately something that happens. Many of the mums in my mothers group went through the same thing.
Some of the bubs changed a lot, once they went from that newborn sleepy stage, to being more aware and awake. They went from the so callef "perfect sleeping baby" to one that can be unsettled, and harder to get to sleep and calm down.
If wearing her doesn't help, have you tried taking her out in her pram for a big long walk in the fresh air?

I use it for DD, have been using it since she was maybe 2 & 4 months? Has been fantastic for her! We still get bad nights here and there, but overall she has definitely improved!
Don't think I would feel comfortable using it on a bub that young, although it does just say on the bottle 'for the whole family' and doesn't state an age range.
Sorry I don't have any other advice for you, but if it were me I would probably leave rescue sleep until around 2 years..
I'd be very wary about giving something like that to a very young baby. Maybe speak to a natropath or homeopath for suggestions if you're interested in that sort of thing?
Sometimes they're just like this Lys - we all have bad days - and they do tend to wake up at some point. It's tough, I know - take some tiny amount of comfort in knowing that many other mums are out there getting through this. If she's not able to sleep, perhaps do something else with her like going for a walk or something. A change of perspective can be very helpful sometimes. Is she still sleeping at night?
She had a terrible nights sleep last night. Maybe two and a half hours sleep today despite trying everything. I don't know what to anymore. I can't bare to leave her cry, sometimes I need to walk away but she's in a safe place, tucked in, and all her main needs are tended to before I put her down. Eg fed, changed, burped... Etc etc.
I wish there was a manual for babies. Lol. I'm trying to remain calm... And I don't really want to give her rescue sleep either,because I'm not sure because she is technically only supposed to be 7 weeks old.
I'm at a loss with what to do.
And no, I don't have anyone with me during the day. I see my mun maybe twice to three times a week, but no one to watch her while I sleep for an hour.

I'll try the walking in the pram. It's been a bit cold of late and I haven't even wanted to go shopping to get new jumpsuits. She just screams the shops down ... My face goes red, I feel inconmpetent. Great feeling! ...

Dont worry about looking incompetent! All bubs cry, and all are bound to have numerous meltdowns in the shops.
Rug up if it's cooler, and hopefully the fresh air will help.
Can you ask your mum when you see her during the week if she would watch her, so you can catch up on some sleep.
Get your DH to do some of the night feeds, so you can get a decent block of some sleep some nights, will make it easier if she is unsettled the next day. (she is bottle fed isn't she?)
And, you are doing the right, if it gets too much, pop her in her cot where's she's safe and go away for a few mins to regain your composure.
Have you tried, infants friend, I found that a life saver. If you try rescue sleep check that it doesn't have alcohol in it, there is one for kids. I hope things improve for you soon. :hug:

I hope you get some relief soon Mel. just wondering, do you have a swing? Like one she can lie in and you turn it on and they rock? Evie had terrible colic & I found the swing was a lifesaver! xo
I'm sorry you and your bub are having such a tough time :( I haven't used rescue sleep because I've been lucky to have a bub that sleeps well do far, but we have used rescue remedy with him since he was only a few days old - we just dab a drop on his temples and it really helps to settle him when he gets really worked up and upset.

2.5 hours during the day is really fine. She may well be getting a bit bigger, more awake and just needing less sleep time. THere is not optimal number of hours that babies need to sleep - they're all completely different. Worrying about the hours and spending aaaages trying to get them to sleep will make you absolutely crazy. Try to just let things be if you can.
some of the mums from mums group have had success with gripe water and infacol, but none of their bubs were premmie, so I'm not sure if that would have any impact ...
we've taken DS2 to the chiro to get him checked out - but I think you've done that already for your little girl?
we use the glider a lot - it elevates him a little, and the rocking seems to soothe him. sometimes we give him a dummy ... also, we give sometimes him a top up of expressed breast milk, to make sure he's nice and full before night sleeps ... sometimes it seems to help, sometimes it doesn't ... there's nothing which I could say works every time, sadly!
