Baby shower with no kids

I'm planning my baby shower for about 8-10 weeks away. I have about 15 ladies on my invite list which many have children.

I want it at my house but with 15 guests and their children my house will be VERY crowded. As much as i LOVED my baby shower with DD the kids sort of took over the fun.

I'd like for this to be an adult party, where we can all relax, eat and chat plus play some games and have no little people to worry about.

But im a bit worried i might offend some people by saying no kids.

How would you go about it?

I'd say on the invite "No kiddies. Babes in arms welcome" or something like that.

If people choose to get offended or are not able to come, that's their choice.

Whilst on etiquette, I though baby showers were only for first babies and that someone other than the parents organised it? I'm not having a go, things may have changed. I'm just curious.

I thought it was only for first babies too.

I had a Shower for my first DD and a Motherblessing for my second (both organised by friends), The invite was worded as 'A special quiet afternoon for Women and babes in arms to surround Ambersky with support on her journey' I requested no gifts as it was second time, although i got a couple anyway.

I like LnB's suggestion of "no kids sorry but babes in arms welcome"!

As for being for a first baby only - I had one for my first only but I think any baby is deserving of a celebration and if people choose to have one for a subsequent child, then why not, pretty sure there aren't rules around it being only for a first child? I know a lot of people who have had more of a blessing way for their 2nd child so it's more about getting together, painting a belly cast etc. than gifts. JMO though! :D My gf had a gorgeous blessing for her recent 3rd child, people were asked to donate a piece of fabric that was 30 x 30 cms so she could make a birthing bunting as she was home birthing (after a c/s and vbac in hospy!) and I thought that was a lovely idea and I was spewing I couldn't go!

In my family it's bad luck to throw your own baby shower.

So someone does it for you or it doesn't happen. We didn't have one for DD, but we did have one for DS.

As for kids, it annoys me that you can't say "adult party" on things. Why the heck not? I've been to showers that were kid free, I've thrown showers that were kid free. And I've also thrown couples baby showers where kids were welcome. It's a personal thing, there is no right or wrong. I hate it when people get their knickers in a knot over a kid free event.

Actually I find it a bit weird people would bring kids anyway. I would always assume a baby shower was kid free. Maybe it's just the one's I've been to.

This is exactly why one of my good friends had a champagne afternoon tea at her house for me for my DS. She felt he deserved a party as much as my DD :D

Wonder if she'll do it again for this one?

Yep, L&B's suggestion is great.

I have found the second childs impending birth has generally instigated a smaller scale get together, with the big emphasis being on no presents or games as such, but just a chill out with the girls. LAst one I went to was a lazy lunch at a pub.

I love getting *child free* invitations :lol: I think L&B's wording is good.

I don't think there are any rules about second babies and baby showers. I didn't have a second one but had a grown up girls luncheon instead.

I planned my first so quite happy to plan this one myself.

Having a baby boy this time makes it all new again and i know i have some friends who want to bring me a gift. Also it would be nice to have one get together before things get crazy and i dont have time to spend time with my friends.

I'll go with L&B's suggestion

On my invite we wrote

"we respectfully request no little munchkins attend"

No one was offended at all, one mum called and asked could she bring her 8 month old, I said of course.

Everyone else has given great advice :)

Myself, I wish there'd been more kids at my shower and less adults :lol:
