{Vent} It is not about you!

I took my DS to the optometrist today. He is 5 yo and in Prep. He told me that when he sat at the table in class, the letters were blurry. I thought it was reasonable to get his eyes checked (he also has nystigmas as well so his eyes flicker). He is getting glasses with a minor prescription as he is short-sighted. The optometrist told me that it may change as he is a child and his vision is still developing as he is growing. We have another appointment in 6 months to review.

Well, my DH is upset (and behaving like a spoilt brat) because his son should have glasses. Tough crap! Suck it up princess.

DS is excited that he is getting glasses. He chose them and thinks they look cool.

back when your DH was a kid, having glasses was something to be teased about - i'm sure now that it's so common that kids actually WANT them (thanks JK Rowling and Harry Potter for making them cool!)

:( hopefully he will come around when he see how excited your ds is by them and how cute he looks, apart from the fact he needs them to see in class. Dd1 has some and loves them as they are pink and black her favourite colours.

Yep dd1 loved watching Harry potter and seeing Harry with glasses like her.

This. My best friend in Prep had glasses, and I thought they were the coolest things ever! I'm still slightly obsessed with glasses - though now I'm supposed to wear mine when I read, I always forget :lol:

I understand where your DH is coming from. When DS1 first got prescribed with glasses at 5.5yrs, I thought oh crap! What a PITA, but you get over it pretty quickly. Kids glasses these days are so funky and cool - DS has never ever been teased about wearing them and they are quite common really. Plus you don't ever see the 'kevvy-cokebottle' thick lenses anymore either. DS has a super strong prescription and you'd never know it to look at his glasses. I bet he will look super cute when he gets his glasses.

I think it's cute when you see little preppies with glasses.
I have a feeling DD might need them. 2 out of 3 of my siblings need them full time and I used to have them for reading. My parents have them.

Kids glasses are cute. :)

Big hugs. It'll pass with DH. I've been wearing glasses since I was 2 1/2 and yeah, copped it at school big time. Luckily things have changed but if DD needed glasses I think it'd take me a while to get around it. Hope your DH comes to terms with it soon.
