is this the way it is in the begining?

:)Okay so have finally started toiet training Mr 2.5 he has been interested for ages and will wee and poo in both potty and toilet. Had held off as there was few things happening so had held off until now.

We started on Thursday at day care at it was good only two accidents :-) Friday was bit more difficult with us doing a 7 hour drive. Left him in nappy when in car but he did pee in potty each time we stopped. However yesterday we had 8 accidents? He still weed in botj potty and toilet every time he went there which was good but also had accidents including going two minutes after we had asked him if he wanted to go and he said no. Is this just par for course or am I being stupid trying to start when we are away for long weekend? DH wants to wait until we get back home I think we should persevere? I absolutly know that it won't happen over night but wondered how bad it gets and if 8 is par for the course!

I'd probably wait til your home. Being in a new environment, there's probably other things for your DS to focus on.

I TTd by DS around the same age and it went really well. Within a couple of days he was out of day nappies and was only a couple of weeks until he was out of night nappies.

it's highly likely there is just too much distraction when he's out of his normal environment - and it may cause him to have further accidents. if it's only been a couple of days, i'd probably be inclined to put him back in nappies so you can all enjoy your holiday and start again when you get home. the last thing you want is him stressing about accidents, angst with your hubby etc. TT takes a bit to "get" for little ones - and distractions like a holiday can really throw that especially in the early stages of learning...

Agreed, Toilet Training can be challenging enough without adding the extra pressure of being away on holidays - I doubt any of you will enjoy your break or toilet training under those circumstances.

Wait until you are home and can focus on the task. We toilet trained in a couple of days and had about 25 accidents on day one and barely any on day two. But we were home, within sprinting distance of the loo, and had no other distractions. Also, I think its confusing to put them back in nappies when its convenient for you, they then get confused about when its ok to wee on the toilet and when its not, assuming you have another 7 hr drive back the other way, you may undo any progress you do actually make while away.

We've found TT both our boys to be fantastic one day and loads of accidents the next. Neither of ours got it within a few days and the eldest is still in night pull ups.
I've found that when asking our 2.5 yr old, he will often say no, he doesn't need to go wee, only to find he's wet his pants 2 mins later. It's like putting the thought out there and then he needs to go. I've found prompting him and getting him to sit on the toilet at regular intervals far more successful, than asking his opinion or waiting for him to iniate it himself - that comes later. Also, we did it over the summer holidays when we were home and didn't have any commitments planned. We also found with DS2 that the 'novelty' of using the toilet went after a few months and he started refusing to go. We're still struggling to get number 2's happening on the toilet, but wees have improved. So, yes, we've had more than 8 accidents in a day. They do eventually get it.
