my baby is constipated... advice?

My DD (almost 6 months) has been quite constipated for a number of weeks now. I feel like i have tried almost everything, but still to no avail. She is FF and have introduced solids about a month ago (specifically; apple, pear, carrot, sweet potato, pumpkin each mixed with a teaspoon of farax and formula) which she is having twice daily.

I have tried
-coloxyl drops in bottle
-adding an extra 10-20ml in her bottles
-trying to offer her water or diluted prune juice which she refuses
-brown sugar and water
-doing bicycle type motions with her legs

she does no more than a few very hard pebbles every day and is straining. Ive heard babies can become constipated when first having solids, but i just feel like this has been going on for some time now, and she must be getting quite uncomfortable.

any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

oh poor bubs! No, this really doesn't sound good at all.

Some suggestions that might help
- stop giving solids or cut back. If this problem started with food, then removing food may well be a quick fix. Her digestive system may simply not be ready to deal with it.
- at least stop the farex (it often causes constipation and doesn't really give them much nutrition-wise anyway)
- try more pear, less other stuff
- hold her in a squat position, or put her on the potty if she can sit up. This position will often help get bowels moving.

My daughter had a lot of problems after she started eating at around 8 months. We tried coloxyl and mini-enema things, which helped unblock her but didn't solve the problem. Putting her on the potty was an instant fix, however.

I agree with madb. Cut back on farex. Also, maybe try a warm bath that might help relax.

We tried mini enemas, it doesn't work very well for my DD.

We used coloxyl, but then started diluted prime juice and had heaps better results.

I'd maybe try starting a probiotic. It helps with bubs gut and digestion problems. Her gp, her paed, and chiro all agreed. And has helped.

She's a once a day pooper now. :-)

My DS was really constipated and the only thing that helped him was stewed apples. I used to do it myself, the stuff in the jars wasn't good. GL hun xx

I was going to suggest diluted prune juice too - worked a treat for my nephew.
