Cost of kitchen renos!

DH and I bought our current house last May. We have been renovating it since we bought it & have done pretty much everything except the kitchen. Our plan is to sell in the next year or so to make $$ on it & get the mortgage down. So we won't be doing an expensive kitchen, most likely just a flat pack one. We have a friend who is a cabinet maker who did our bathroom & ensuite vanities for us which was great & pretty cheap for custom made cabinetry. So we will get a quote off him but I'm wondering if you have done your kitchen up what has it cost?

We don't have a large space, so it won't be massive, the oven is brand new so we don't need to buy one, we just need a dishwasher I think. I just want a basic white kitchen, so then there's nothing to not really like about it when it comes time to sell.

We did ours ourselves. Found a secondhand kitchen for $2300. Was massive. Made a few modifications to make it fit. We ripped our walls down and gy*****ed. Bought tiled etc. still to do paint. All up we prob looked at $3500-5000. We got a few things cheap (brother works at a tile place so got a good deal. Plus paying cash for jobs, finding friends who are tradeies)

I should mention that it included an oven and stove top. Plus we have more in the shed

Ikea baby ;) our benches were custom made and cost more than the fit out- will look it up for you but the design software is handy to download and play with to get an idea of layout and price. They are just as good, if not better IMO than other flat pack companies.... I love soft close for free! One company charged something ridiculous per drawer. Also if you prefer a place to do it, Yarra valley kitchens on Canterbury rd Kilsyth are really well
Priced but we didn't want to wait 10 weeks!!!!

:rofl: I was wondering why you were up so early posting but then saw your FB status!! You poor thing, annoying thing to wake up to! Ikea & Bunnings are the most likely places we'll go with. We have toyed with the idea of a second hand kitchen but with our limited space we need to plan it carefully to get the most out of it.

It was seriously horrific - I had the itchy throat like I do when I go to "Lemongatha" as JJ calls it :rofl: Anyway you will be happy with the Ikea one hun, all their stuff just works and fits perfectly and you can either use their tops or do something like ours. Al thinks it was around 7-8k all up without the benchtops but that wasn't with their standards doors or handles so that all ups the price! Good luck babe - have fun playing around with designs!

I did the kitchen in my first house for just under $4,000 all up - new sink and taps, bench tops, custom made cupboards (under bench and overhead), as well as new oven and stove.

When we did our current house just under two years ago I spent truckloads more than that, so my spend wouldn't help you (wouldn't recommend it when you're selling anyway), but what I did find was that the quotes I got for cabinetry varied enormously even though they were all quoting using the same products so definitely worth getting three or even four quotes.

Tanstar how long did you have to wait for your kitchen from Ikea? I've been thinking about going with them ;)

We picked up most pieces on the day we went in (99%). There were a few door fronts we had to go back for but the majority was all picked up that day. Takes just over an hour to wait for them to get all the bits together for you. The kitchen people sit with you and your plan and work through it all as well and the make suggestions for things too. Will post a pic tomorrow if you like! Did I mention I love my kitchen?!?

We did ours through a place in Bayswater for around $4000. We got the cabinets straight away but had to wait 2 weeks for the benchtops and doors etc. I would definitely use them again.

Ikea. $6000, included dishwasher, 6 burner gas/elec stove and rangehood.
It includes corner cupboards with pull right out centre shelves and an island bench and all of the hinges (soft close -even on the drawers) and handles
The sink we bought elsewhere, but not for any particular reason and the benchtops, ceaser (sp) stone and splashbacks we did ourselves as hubby is a stone/tile man.
Our kitchen is awesome for what we paid, it has held up to the beating it gets really well.
We walked in and got everything bar the appliances in one day, the appliances took maybe a week?
You have to be prepared to spend the time making sure it is put together level and neatly though, or it would look dodge.
If you and you hubby are not that way inclined, pay a professional. The diff between a nice kitchen and a sh*t one is how everything opens/closes and how nicely the doors hang ect.

I have seen Tanstar's Ikea kitchen and it looks fantastic! DH and I went in to Ikea a couple of days ago to look at kitchens. We were inspired because our friends just re-did their kitchen with Ikea for $3500! We've been talking of getting a new kitchen for TOO long now. We really like the high-gloss Ikea Abstrakt kitchen in white :)

Wow that looks awesome Tanstar! Thanks for sharing :) Was the bench top included too or was that from somewhere else? Has it worn well? I'm considering stone but do like the look of timber though I'm worried how it will wear after a few years.

Can I just say I am drooling over those benches!

Thanks chicks! We had them custom made - they were not cheap - around 4k alone for the benches. They are spotted gum and they sit sideways ITMS so the grain on top is narrow and the depth of the benches is made up by the width of them! Not sure I am explaining very well - anyway a place in Kilsyth did them for us. Problematic around water of course being timber and we chose not to do a 2pack type finish which is harder wearing but also much harder to resand and polish if needed. A few spots when they glued them weren't done well and have split slightly and we have a few tinsy spots of dark near the sink(mainly coz I am a slack tart and forget to wipe up after myself after washing up at times :rolleyes:) All up we are super happy - have been here over 2 years now and they still look awesome!! I think the wear and tear adds to the character of them and looking after them isn't much harder than granite, because I don't think you can put hot stuff on etc. Hot tea/coffee is fine but I don't ever put pots on them, same as you would with granite or lam.

Yes it was a flat pack. The place is called flatpack kitchens it's on Dorset Rd in Bayswater. They have a showroom on Canterbury Rd in Kilsyth as well. They were so good to deal with, we had an issue with the bench top being the wrong measurements which they fixed quickly for us.
