Temp too low?? With a rash?

So after being worried about DD's high temp, she went back to normal for a day and has now swung the other way! This afternoon and evening her temperature has been between 35 & 35.3. This seems really low to me, is it something to worry about?

She's also got a rash on her back. I first noticed it at about 2 after getting back from a walk and it was hot, I took her shirt off. We thought it might have been just because of the heat and because she spent a lot of time in her car seat and pram today but it's still there, unchanged. Either that or from all the chlorine in the pool at swimming this morning.

It's nowhere else, a few tiny spots on her chest that may or may not be related. Until just now, feeding her to sleep she's gotten quite warm where her head is on my arm, and now she's got spots on her forehead. So maybe it is to do with heat?

Soooo... Is that temperature a problem? Could the rash be related and is that a problem too? I'm worried if together they mean something and we should get her checked, problem being no doctors are open here on Sundays and we'd be off to hospy. At the moment we're just going to make sure her temp doesn't get lower, check her forehead spots once she's been in bed a while, and check the ones on her back in the morning.

I would take her to ED or after hours GP. A low temperature can be just as bad as a high one.

I'd get her checked out. Or call 13 HEALTH.

Bugger, I was afraid that might be the advice :( I've checked her temp a few more times and it's now 36, but I'll call the health line as soon as I can get to my phone.

I called Health Direct, who told me a normal temperature range is 35.8 - 38. So hers was pretty low. She also said they don't worry until it goes below 35 - like how it went up to 39.4, quite a way above normal - it can go a bit below too. She doesn't believe the rash is related, it could have been from her clothes, being in the pram, chlorine from swimming etc.

The spots on her face are starting to go away now (nurse said they were probably just from being in close warm contact with my arm). Advice is to keep checking them, and keep checking her temp. If it gets too low I think we're just going straight to hospy.

Hope you both get some sleep tonight and she feels better in the morning.

Thanks H&Z. She's sleeping really well right now, and after the high temp her sleep has pretty much gone back to normal. So fingers crossed tonight's a good night!

After I spoke to Health Direct I checked her again and she was back down to 35 but it's pretty cold in our room. Added a blanket and forced myself to have a shower and wash my hair so I wouldn't bug her every two minutes with a thermometer in her ear lol. After the shower her face spots are almost totally gone and temp up a bit to 35.5. So now I'll be checking her again in half an hour and probably worrying myself until she's completely perfectly normal again.

Ah the joys of motherhood.

It could be a viral rash. My DS who is the same age had this recently.

Another half hour, face spots all gone (wish I could check her back!) and temp 36.1. Feeling stupid and guilty now, after she had such a high temp I've been so worried about her overheating that I've gone and let her get too cold :(

How was your night?

If she had high temps for a few days then a rash she could of possibly had Roseola. Both my girls had it not to long ago and it was almost the same as what you have been through with your DD over the last few days. Just a thought:)
I hope she is all better now.

This whole thing does my head in!!

- The yucky cough has been around for weeks. Dr still thinks it's nothing, just an immature immune system picking up every cold under the sun from daycare.
- High temp was Wednesday night, with no other symptoms. Cleared up on it's own, kept her home for lots of rest Thursday.
- Everything perfectly normal Thursday.
- Only thing amiss on Friday were two runny poops, one early morning and one late afternoon.
- Put it down to teething as that night she had trouble going to sleep, crying in pain and chewing madly on her fingers. Teething gel fixed her right up.
- All good yesterday until I noticed the rash and low temp. That fixed itself too, but last night had teeth issues again.
- Today was completely fine. Had a long nap with me and did get a few spots were she had sweated. Also got a few in the bath which was quite warm, they went away immediately.

So it looks like each 'symptom' is unrelated and aren't anything to stress about right now. The only thing hanging around is the cough but there's not much we can do. We'll be back to the Dr again if anything else joins it again, but I'm really hoping nothing does! She's having a great sleep so far.

Everyone tells me it will continue like this for the first few months of daycare, but seriously, how long can she be sick for?? And if breastfeeding helps her immune system so much, how much worse would this be if I wasn't breastfeeding her?
