Apparently a 'monster' has just terrified my little girl :-(
She woke up screaming, blood curling, sobbing her heart out shaking,
after 10-15mins of it I was able to calm her down enough for her to tell me a monster was in her room and she just wants mummmy
I took her up to her room and told her it was okay, she started crying again holding on really tight
Currently lying across, sleeping, and won't let me go... Keeping her really close to Mummy tonight thats what she needs...

Maybe some monster spray tomorrow may help, just in case :(

When DD1 was gong through this, before going o bed we would yell out "Go away monsters! You don't live here! Your mummies are calling for you because you have to go to bed! Goodnight!". We would really yell it, then we would look around her room to make sure they were all gone, then she would happily go to bed. We have to repeat it every so often, but I has worked every time.
I second the monster spray..
Get a spray bottle, make a no monster label and fill with water and lavender (or your choice of scent) and let her spray her room before bed.

I will be doing the monster spray and the yelling at the monsters tomorrow...
I thought it might of been her room/toys and moved her room around last week - it was properly she was scared all along! She's mentioned monsters before but this is the first night she was woken up screaming. I was starting to get scared wondering what was wrong! Her screaming was that terrifying and intense ;(
I tried to go to the toilet before but she wouldn't let me go. Said the monsters are now in the loungeroom. And would cuddle Into my chest and not look.
Currently asleep in mummies bed. Safe and sound.

Monster spray is the way to go, if you use something like lavender it will also help her sleep (as it is a calmative).
Also something like a bedtime ritual may help, we used to have a bell that used to be rung under the bed, in the corners, in the wardrobe (then the door was firmly shut and sprayed with monster spray). Then the bed would be folded down for the kids to get into, the nightlight put on, the curtains would be straightened (also to show no monsters behind them), then the kids would happily get into bed. This ritual was about 5 mins long.
I know the screams you're talking about... Poor ds has had a mouse in his room twice & screamed the same.
He was ok to go back to bed the first night, but last night he saw it again, so is in my bed til I get some ratsak.
He is in general a bit scared of sleeping in his room, unless dd3 is in there too. Which is rare :lol:
Has she seen monsters inc? I think that movie convinced dd1 that I was right & that monsters weren't too bad.
I've not had to go as far as sprays etc yet. It is a stage they pass. So if nothing else works, just remember that she won't be in your bed forever xx
We do the yell at the monsters to go away. DS has told me that some of the monsters are nice so I said that they help keep the nasty monsters away. I also give him rocks and tell him that they help keep them away :dunno: some nights it's more involved then others (ie, looking in the cupboards and making sure they are closed, checking under bed etc...)

We are too young for monsters here, but my friend has put a sign at the front door before bedtime for her DD, " monsters keep out", which works a treat!
We had big screams too, heart palpatation from night terrors, poor little poppet. I have to admit I am not into telling stories (that's Daddy's job!) so instead I have told her that monsters are pretend, they aren't real which is both true and believable for her to understand. we watched monsters Inc which also helped because she knows cartoons are just for fun. We also explain that nighttime can be scary because you can't see things, but that it's the same as daytime except it's dark. it's awful seeing them so scared, but luckily with lots of cuddles and assuring that it's OK to feel scared and that Mummy and Daddy are always there for her she has stopped. I hope the night terrors stop very soon :)

I cant remember where I read this, but I once read about two grown men wrestling the nasty invisible monster into the boot of a car before one of them got in and drove off to take the monster away. The Terry Pratchett model of monster deterance involves a big stick smashed in wardrobes and under beds. Spray sounds less potentially destructive. Banging pots scares them away too.
It took me years to stop jumping into bed so the monster didnt swipe me from under the bed. I still have to close wardrobe doors to sleep. I hope your little poppet is less scared tonight.
Our lot were also told that if they were scary monsters, to tell them to go away, that they weren't wanted here. But then again what a lot of what they were seeing was spirits and once they were aware of what they were, they could deal a lot better. We still did the ritual each night with the spray etc.
The spray bottles have been brought... special labels put on... and ready for tonight ;-D
Girls (Eldest DD had to have one too) have already sprayed their rooms and will spray the rooms again tonight.

I still do this :o If I get up in the middle of the night to go to the loo, when I get back into bed I leap into it. Currently at 27 weeks pregnant I kinda barrel roll into it :ROFL:
We don't do the spray because DH and I think that it's just feeding the fear by acknowledging the presence of monsters and the need for protection.
DH explained that there is nothing in the night that isn't in the day and we got a growly torch so they could shine it around the room if they needed to check anything out. Both the boys were so entranced with the torches that turning out the light became a positive.
The spray Bottles have worked... It got them into bed and asleep...
We sprayed the bottles and then said "Monsters monster go away monsters monsters stay away"
Worked until about 1030 when she woke up petrified agaain...
Onyx I appreciate where your coming from and I did try that first to say that they are not real, but she wouldn't have a bar of it. They are real to her, so at the moment I'll do what I can do to make them live side by side until she gets older ;-D
