Baby Boys name...Alvin?
Hi everyone,
We are due to have our fifth baby in early September and as it is baby boy number 5 our names list is running low.
I would really something two syllables that can't be shortened into somethign horrible. My other boys names are Blake, Seth, Levi and Hugh and middle names are in my sig. They each have two middlenames (i now realise this was a bad idea as we are out of names :) !!) but at the moment I'd be happy to at least have a shortlist of first names and go from there. Im having trouble finding two syllable names so I seem to keep getting stuck with one syllable.
Some names I like but my husband has vetoed ( he is soo fussy) are:
Isiah
Tate
Phineas
Avery
Nate
I also adore the name Alvin at the moment, but my husband said too Chipmunky? What are you thoughts on Alvin. Would he get picked on? Thought maybe I could sell him if we nickname him Vinny?
Ok - hit me with some ideas :p

Sorry but aren't Isaiah, Avery and Phineas 3 syllables and Nate and Tate one? Or is that not a strict criteria?
I think Alvin is great! I went to school with an Alvin and never thought of him as a chipmunk :P or what about Calvin as a compromise? Or would that be too Hobbes or Klein for DH? :D
Others are:
David
Aaron
Jason
Peter
Jacob
Marcus
Rohan/Rowan
Samuel
Jerry
Geoffrey
Lucas
They're all off the top of my head

I did think of the chipmunks, but I'd use it anyway. Go for it :)
-
Yes Phebee I know they aren't two syllable names :) But I am so stuck you wouldn't believe!
I didn't want one syllable as we already have three one syllable names and I was stuck when thiinking up two syllable options so they wee the closest I could come up with. Most improtant is that it can't be shortened into something horrible :)
Keep the ideas coming :)

I also think it's too chipmunky. I've heard of a few Theodore's being born recently and I have the the exact same thought with that name too. It is a nice name though so if you both like it, go for it :)
-
Alvin is cute but I instantly thought of the Chipmunks! Calvin is also cute.
-
I must admit that my first thought was that it was a good name... if you were having a chipmunk ;)
I know you said you would like two syllables, but seeing as your other kids all have just one, I thought I'd suggest 'Taye' :) I love the name and it would have been a possible name if DD2 had been a boy except a good friend named her son Taye a little while ago.
-
I agree , too much like the chipmunks LOL!!!
I love Nate but we can't use it as it is the same as our surname bar one letter haha
-
not trying to be funny, but how about Theodore? Ted for short.
It's still a chipmunk but not a title name iykwim.
-
How about Albert instead?
-
I t hink it's a cute name but you'll have ot be prepared for everyone to yell AAAAALLLLVVVIIIINNNNN!
-
I think it's a cute name but yes, I do think of chipmunks :)
Other suggestions:
Henry
Lucas
Collin
Andrew

Alvin is awesome but it's a bit chipmunky. If you and your DH are short with brown hair and prominent teeth the it's probably best avoided.
-
Sorry to chipmunky for me.
Jacob
Byron
Harry
Maximus
Leon
Jonty
Jules
Leo
Casper
Jasper
On phone so can't see sig to see middle names will check when home

Initial thought to Alvin: don't give the lad the middle names of Simon Theodore. Then I read two middle names and realised it was a possiblilty.
If you like Vinny, why not Vincent? That's two syllables. Nathen shortened to Nate could work for you too.
I do adore Phineas though, so I'd go with that from your list.
-
I love Vincent but we gave DS1 Vincent as his middle name so its gone now. I do like Jules, or Julian, but does it seem girly? Just not sure it goes with the other boys' names.
I quite like Calvin too - but can't get past the association with 'bald'. Wish I had never read that meaning! Why is it so hard!
Keep 'em coming - there must be some more options out there..
-
I had Julian on my list because I liked the nickname Jules. I like that one.
Re Vincent, I don't see a problem with naming DS5 one of DS1's middle names. Middle names rarely get used in general so only your close family & friends would know. And if you really like, then why not?
I'm with the majority on Alvin though - my first thought reading the title was "and the chipmunks". Being a kids show, & kids being rather tactless, I think I would avoid it personally.
Good luck :)
