Possibly the dumbest doona cover question ever...

A while back we upgraded to a King bed and got a new big king doona and a cover for it. Something that really bothers me is when a doona is not properly in a cover and there are areas of the doona cover that doesn't have any doona in it. I like all four corners of the doona to be neatly in each corner of the doona cover. With the new doona a found that every night the doona would shift in the doona cover and I'd have to fix it both through the night and in the morning when making the bed. Frustrating!! I thought it was due to the doona cover because I'd never had it happen before with my queen doona and this cover was a little silkier. So we got another cover and it does the same thing!!! Is this normal? Does it bother others as much as it does me? I even got so annoyed one time that I got out a needle and thread and put a couple of stitches through the doona and cover in strategic places to keep it in place. It was great until a week later I had to use un-pick it to wash the cover, lol. Is there any tricks to making the doona stay put in the cover???

I have a small manchester obsession and cannot stand it when the doona does not co-operate either! I even put safety pins in to keep the ends where they are supposed to be. Really easy to take off when you need to and no one else sees them :-) I think it is the weight of the king doona that throws it all out of wack.

Our queen doona does same, so often 1 of us ends up basically covered in doona cover only and no doona. Very annoying.

Drives me mad too. I'd use safety pins. I keep telling myself to do it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet... I have a duvet now instead :lol:

Measure the doona, and then go and buy a new cover - the measurements should be on the wrapper. :)

King doonas aren't exactly square - I keep meaning to measure which way is wider or longer, but I always forget. It could be that you're putting the doona in the wrong way :)

I've had this happen a few times too and yes, it drives me batty!! I have found each time it's when I put the doona in the wrong way though. King size, in particular, do appear square but they aren't. One side is definitely longer than the other. I make sure I measure the doona sides with my arms stretched out (as far as they will reach, like measuring lengths of rope) to find the longer side. That seems to do the trick!

On a side note, I also hate that the sheet set I bought from Target don't fit properly! The top sheet only just covers the bed and can only be tucked in on one side! Even the doonas are a little short. What's with that?? Is our king mattress too deep for standard king bedding? So annoying!!

You need to buy the 'deeper' sheets- target sells them.
I think they're 60 CMs deep from memory.

I sew ribbons in the inside corners and onto the corners of the doona so I can tie it in!

Taurean we have the same gripe.....! We recently got a king bed an assumed the sheets would actually fit, we only have Sheridan sheets.

*light bulb moment* Oooh, I'm so going to have to check mine now!! It's been doing that and I'm the one who ends up with no blimmin' doona! Not DH who kicks it all off anyway. I was thinking about sewing a button into each of the corners and then a little loop of ribbon onto the corners of the doona so it can't flipping well move. I have a super-king doona and cover which is so heavy and cumbersome to fix in the morning too.

I love the ribbon idea! I've also considered adding buttons on the inside to keep the doona in place. I think ribbons would be easier though. I swear there are so many times I've had a horizontal tantrum under the doona trying to get it to spread out properly. You know, kicking and thrashing it into place? Yeah, doesn't work. But ribbons... genius!

Olive, glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I'd thought about buying more expensive ones (like Sheridan) to see if they were any different but checked the measurements on the various packages and they're all the same. These deeper ones Emma has mentioned sound perfect. I looked into a super king too but I think they'd be too big.

Definitely go the deep wall sheets - we have Logan and Mason and they fit perfectly plus are lovely and silky soft.

The super-king doona has the advantage when it comes to doona-pinchers like my DH as it's big enough that when he grabs it and yoinks it across himself at 2am I'm still left with enough not to freeze :lol:

The ribbons are good because it also makes it easier to put the doona on. You turn the doona cover inside out. Lay it flat then tie the ribbons to the doona and then flip it over. No strenuous stuffing necessary.

If you carefully checked the long and short sides before you sewed on the ribbons, and then used different coloured ribbons for each corner, you'd get it right each time without having to re-measure, too. 'The red ribbon ties to the red corner, the blue ribbon ties to the blue corner,' etc.

Good idea Pholi! Or if so inclined, a small perm marker dot on the top right corner would do the trick too.
