4th day of vomiting.

We have all had colds, just snotty etc. DD1 vomited in the night days ago after not really eating all day but by the morning was fine. DD2 is now on her 4th day of vomiting but i cant work out what the problem is.
She was sick at 10pm the first night after a feed. then didnt really feed much over night (which is NOT normal) and then was sick at 4am. I called 13health and they said if she didnt drink and keep anything down i should have her seen within 12 hours. But that day she was fine. Drank lots of water and breastfeeds, ate a small amount, less than normal. That night the same happened, woke at 10ish ,i resettled with a feed (like i would do normally) and within ten minutes she had vomited it all back up and we were in the shower! then another in the morning. But again seemed totally fine in the day, a bit coldy but not ill as such. drank lots, lots of wet nappies and picked at what food i offered. Vomiting again last night and hardly feeding over night then finally today she had a few grapes for breakfast and a good breastfeed and i thought she was ok. Another big breastfeed at 9ish and shes chucked the whole lot up again!! Is now tearing round the house and drinking water no problem.

DH at first thought it was the snot etc she was swallowing....there is ALOT of green snot...making her sick but then this morning commented that it seemed to be after each big breastfeed!?!? She isnt coughing lots before vomiting and its her full stomach contense that comes up, to the point of just dry heaving when her tummy is empty. she gets quite distressed at that bit!! :(

Oh and her nappy thismorning was DISGUSTING....TMI WARNING...her poo was so light and creamy, like sourcream with a slight yellowy colour and the same consistency!!! that is NOT normal!

We cant get into the docs till monday. WHat do you think??????

I would try 13 health again, or see if there is a GP surgery that is open at the weekend.

Thanks Traveller, i think i will when i can get five minute quiet. shes fine now and scoffing lunch. and i have another two loads of vomit laundry to do :(

Omg beckoes, my ds2 has exactly the same thing minus the cold. It's happened 2 night in a row, vomiting massive amounts at night and diorrea during the day with the same consistancy you described. Ds1 has a really bad cold, coughing, snot etc. I have no answers! Big :hug: xx

Weird!!! I did call 13health and they said that aslong as she isnt dehydrated its ok to wait till monday to go to the docs, but she didnt really have answers either!!! DD2 is coughing lots too and still full of cold.

She just did another dirty nappy, basically water and mucus!!! YUCK. not sure which one was worse!?

It sounds like the is swallowing a lot of mucous, hence the mucousy nappies and the vomiting. If the nurse is happy for you to wait until Monday then it's probably fine, but as with anything if the symptoms get worse or she seems dehydrated then take her to ED. As an aside, you could try giving her hydralite or something like it just so she is stocking up on electrolytes as well as fluids.

do you have an after hours gp nearby?

It is weird! I called them too and they said to get ds2 seen within 12 hours. Maybe because he's under 1? He's not showing any signs of dehydration and he did drink 60mls of hydrolyte for me. He's off food but wants his bottles.

Yuck for the poo! Mucous is definately worse. I hope you all get better soon xxx

this bit makes sense - when DD had a cold as a bub, i had to switch her from big BF's to snacks - when she was BF, she would breathe through her nose, where she was breathing through her mouth more the rest of the time. as a result, as well as the milk going in, there was the extra mucous from her breathing through her nose all the time.

can you get something like Fess little noses and try and clear/suction her nose before a BF and see if that makes any difference? DD hated it, which is why we moved to frequent small feeds rather than the bigger feeds, so that her little tummy wasn't getting filled with the mucous stuff alongside the milk

It sounds like Rotavirus which is a more severe form of gastro. Both my boys had it when they were young and the poo you are describing is the same they had. It also had a really off smell rather than a normal poo smell if that makes sense. The only way to know is to get a poo sample and have it tested, which is what I did and it came back positive.
Rotavirus is now immunised against as it was becoming very prominent and very serious in young babies.
The advice I was given was very little food, lots of liquid (hydrolite icepoles) and water and BF . Have you also tried Nurse on Call 1300 60 60 24

I think that it can take up to 10 days for some gastro viruses to work their way through little bodies. I know that my DS2 has vomitted sporadically over 4-5 days with each bout of gastro that he's had, and the nappies...OMG, the nappies......

If your bubs is still having relatively normal amounts of breastfeeds, some wet nappies, sleeping ok, doesn't have nasty temperatures, and appears to be mostly fine & happy in between the occasional bouts of vomitting, then she's probably ok, her little body is just taking a bit longer to fight the bugs than a more mature body would take. Even if she's bringing up all the BM, try not to let that stress you, the BM will still be helping her tummy.

so we couldnt get to the doctors on monday but we didnt have any vomits sunday night/monday morning either so thought all was fine. Monday night another huge one!! She is so 100% fine in the day and for her day sleep. shes still quite snotty but clearing slowly. its more on her chest now rather than her nose. even after the huge chuck last night, she had a shower and was very excited to be up and running about in the dark while her sister was asleep! shes not dehydrated...massive huge wet nappies. no poo nappies yet today. if she had rotavirus wouldnt she show other signs of sickness???

My 2 youngest have sensitive tummy's. DS was shocking. The slightest cold/flu or just virus & he would power chuck breast feeds. There didn't have to be mucous. I had him checked out & the doc's answer was 'just one of those babies'.

My DD2 had rotavirus as a bub. I don't think it sounds like that. My DD was vomitting & diarrhea non stop for 7 days. She wasn't sitting up, hardly smiling. Clearly very, very sick. She spent a night in hospital.

It does sound to me like she's swallowing mucous. DD3 is similar to DS, but not as bad. If she has a runny nose she vomits easily (Friday night was a big one :rolleyes:)

I'd have her checked out when you can. Just to be safe :)

thanks clover. she was quite chucky when she was tiny so maybe she is just like that. got a doc app on thursday so im happy to leave it till then. :) on with the laundry till!!!
