why does my body not want to poo?

Just wondering if anyone knows why my body doesn't want to do a poo post baby?
It happened after all three births, usually a week later I went. It's day 5 after bubs this time and still havnt gone.
It's not like I'm uncomfortable or anything and hadn't realised till the midwife asked me today if u had pooed or not!
Lol sorry of tmi but I am curious if it is just me or other people too, are our bodies in some kind of shock? Lol...

Lol. Takes me that long too post baby. No issues, just all takes a break it seems! My body does empty itself either before or during birth so that would probably add to the delay.

Hope you go soon, if only so you can tick that box for the midwife! Lol

Are you on any pain relief with codeine?

I read that you can have some bowel bruising during a vaginal birth so everything slows down anyway, couple that with any codeine based meds which make you constipated anyway, a lack of appetite after birth which means there isn't much there to poo and a fear of pooping cos it might hurt and sluggish bowels as they kick start themselves again and that's probably why you haven't pooped yet. Maybe talk to your GP about a BFing friendly laxative you can take if you are really that worried. I know I'll be asking for a laxative whilst in hospital this time round, my first postpartum poop with My first pregnancy scared the hell out of me!!!

i was the same, my mum even bought me a home enama kit with dd1. i think mine was fear though! good luck with that! :)

I had that problem with all three babies and prunes are my best friend now. I just ate a couple every hour until I went. Natural and easy ;)

Drinking much water? Make sure you're drinking plenty each day too.

I had this also but I wasn't "constipated" or anything and the first movement both times was painless and easy, just delayed. I was told it can be fairly normal for your bowels to shut up shop for birth and a period after? I wasn't on any pain relief and I only ever drink water, consider myself quite healthy. I have health based anxiety and one thing that helps me to feel safe is regular movements (daily) and I've been regular since I was a teenager lol so it freaked me out HEAPS but was no issue, after 6 days of nothing, everything was straight back to normal both times.

My obs got me to take some fibre stuff in water to make sure everything went well in the poo department - hospital supplied it, I just had to ask for it.

Are you passing wind? I didn't do a poo for quite sometime after DD but as long as I was passing wind, the midwvies were happy.

Do you think you need to get onto the Benefibre? So much better than metamucil. If you want to encourage things along, try Benefibre. Chemist or Supermarket sell it.

I know I was worried about it hurting - I had a nice little roid from during the pregnancy - so I got myself onto the benefibre. Helped things massively.

My system seems to shut up for a few days post natal too.

Yea I'm passing wind but feel sorry for whoever is sitting in the same room as me...lol keep blaming the dog!!
I'm about to go get the benefibre and I have coloxyl tablets from last birth I might take if nothing happens by the weekend!
Glad to hear its not just me, I'm not scared to go I just don't have the urge at all which I wondered was normal?
Been drinking lots of water and eating fruit but I think I'll move onto prunes tomorrow and see if they get things moving along!!!
I'm pretty convinced the body shuts all the pushing motion down after the birth of baby! Or it's all just in my subconscious!

So I finally went over the weekend and I feel better for going. However it was almost like giving birth again...is that normal? I know all those muscles have had a big workout and now i'm just wondering if after three babies things down there will never be the same again?

It took a couple of weeks for my system to feel normal again. I hit the metamucil on day 2 as I needed to go but was scared due to stitches, midwives then sent me out for a walk to get things moving.

Fibre, plenty of water and gentle exercise to keep things soft and easy.
