has anyone used or looked into belly bands that you can use after the birth of the baby to help get your belly back? there was a poster up in one of the obs rooms (my back up ob) but I wont be going back there again and I can't remember the brand...
any suggestions?
i would have loved a pair of src recovery shorts, but they are pricey and i didn't discover them til too late and couldn't justify the purchase.
I have heard the src shorts are better cos they compress lower than the bands but haven't tried them cos they are too exxy. I just got control shorts from target or kmart.

I just had the tubigrip from the physio which worked a treat and cost me $10 :D
I got given one from my home visit midwife about three days after birth. I wasnt' aware of them before. it's just like stretchy bandage. This is just general issue from public hospital. I had huge seperation in my tummy muscles so it helped alot.
I had tubigrip given to me while in hospy by a midwife for my after pains. It's pretty easy to get- try your dr or hospital?
Yep tubi grip here too! It's great, I wear it just below my belly button and I can notice a difference after a few weeks!!
What size tubi grip did you guys get? I went to the chemist today to get some, no one knew of a size to fit your belly, or even that tubi grip could be used for such a thing. The biggeet size I could see on thr box was thigh size. The chemist just told me to use that bandage you use when you sprain your ankle. And wanted to know WHO would recommend tubi grip for bellies... :grrr:
Am I better off just getting those knicker things from target or wherever that hold everything in?
I'm not sure- a midwife just cut a piece up and gave it to me.
Is there another chemist you can got too? There are different sizes bigger than thigh size but they just mustn't be aware.
I got bellyband cost me a bit and honestly while it was....ok i would get sr shorts the ones mentioned here lol sorry forgot correct name. As the band can be uncomfy hard to just sit but it felt good but due to being so uncofy i used it for 3days only.

Cool, thank you all. Yep, have another chemist I can check out, but I may go look for the knicker things first. I don't know if the midwives here would know/have tubigrip, and I don't want the Man to have to go knicker hunting for me, lol.
See what you find at target, but if you're not happy and decide to look again for tubigrip -
Tubigrip size J/K/L/M would normally fit trunks/bellies from the tiniest size 8 to... well, I'm not sure, but M is pretty big - maybe a size 20? A double layer is tighter than a single layer, so that gives you the equivalent of half sizes, kind of. Chemists don't usually sell it, because these sizes are only packaged on a roll, and you need to cut off the length you want. The chemists normally have the precut, prepackaged sizes which are graded for limbs. You could try calling any local women's health physiotherapists, and see if they will sell it cut to length, without you being a patient. Or call your GP, or CHN, and see if they have it in those larger sizes.
Having said all that, I plan to use my pregnancy belly bands, which I've made from ribbing from the local fabric shop, and just sew the circle a little tighter as I need it!
Thank you Pholi. I went to target before and got a couple of pairs of "seam free full briefs", which claim to "flatten the tummy". We shall see. I bought them in my usual knicker size, and I'm currently wondering how I am going to get myself into them. Perhaps with a shoe horn. :o
If I was any good at sewing, or had a machine, I would probably have a go at sewing up some of the ribbing fabric myself, just as you have done.

I've got 2 pair of the src recovery shorts - I needed them after the twins - and I still use them now (13mths later). They are exxy but I claimed on my PHI as my Ob provided a letter advising they were a medical requirement :).
Only bit of advise, don't put anything too constrictive around your mid section too soon after birth, the physio at the hospital wanted me to put on the recovery shorts the day after the twins were born but as they were so compressive it didn't allow for all the fluid to get out of my system properly and my legs got so swollen from all the trapped fluid. So it would be best to wait until your body has passed all of the excess fluid first and then use a compression garment :)
Oh. Thanks for that note! Good to know. I will try to talk to the midwives, and from the sounds of things here, is the tubi grip slightly less tight/constrictive than the knickers? These seem very tight and stiff.
