Yakult for 12 month old?
DD is on a course of Amoxicillin 3 times a day for about a week. I've been giving her lots of natural, cultured yogurt, and a Yakult a day. The Yakult website says its fine for babies over a year, just checking to see if other people have given their baby something like this to counter antibiotics. Is there anything else I can/should be doing for her gut health right now? We generally have garlic at least once a day or second day, eat good yogurt etc. I know for me antibiotics upset my body a lot, so I'm trying to keep her as balanced as possible.

Yakult actually has lots of sugar and like most yoghurts and 'probiotic added foods' you can never guarantee the potency with the shelf life. Great clip about probiotic foods and people being misled by them by a leading probiotic researcher (the guy who found a specific probiotic tied into vaginal conditions like thrush and bacterial vaginosis) which is in the thrush article. Learnt heaps about probiotics from it. I'd buy GOOD probiotic capsules and mix it in with something.

Where could I get a capsule? A pharmacy? Is that like Inner Health Plus or something? I guess I could mix it with her yogurt or something.

PZ inner health plus make an infants version in powder form, just add to her milk, or rub some on your nipples before a feed

Oh fab! I'll get that today then :)
-
Yup you can add it to lots of things :)

You can also get baby biotics- was given to me by naturopath

I've given DS my inner health plus capsules. I just split it open & mixed it with his milk.

Yeah I would go naturopath probiotics if you can, practitioner only lines tend to be far better in strength, quality and how they're made. Some pro-biotics are fast tracked in foecal matter, thats why I went down the organic probiotic path :D

I would use a much stronger strength probiotic than inner health plus. Get a powder and mix it with something or just pop it in her mouth. My 18 month old has been having baby biotic powder straight off a spoon since 7 months old.
I would give her the probiotic as many times a day as the antibiotic and space them as far apart as possible so that the antibiotic doesn't kill off all the probiotic bacteria straight away.
