So my good friend from work wants me to help her with her baby shower..
im looking for "different" kinds of ideas? you know, things that arent the norm? shes very spunky and i dont think shes after your typical kind of shower.. from what shes said its all just close friends (probably like 10 poeple max i think)
ANY ideas or suggestions would be amazing, im freaking out because i dont want to let her down :(

What about something where guests bring a crystal for the mother, and she has the tree of life henna'd on her tummy?
Have you heard about Blessingways? My interpretation of them is that they are not commercial, but more spiritual. :)

My Girlfriends recently threw me a Mothers Blessing. They all bought two meals for my freezer for when we are busy with a newborn. We had a lovely civilised lunch with Champagne and Coffee, and they bought me a lovely Pandora bracelet which they all went out separately and picked a charm for me - its beautiful and will be passed down to my daughter, a lovely keepsake. There were only 6 of us and it was perfect
MummyNaomi, that sounds beautiful.. thats the kind of thing she is more into.. im passing every idea i have onto her (since its for her) and i have a feeling this is def the kind of thing she will go for!!
I will be asking for this type of thing with #2.. so gorgeous.

You could get each person to write or decorate a page with why she means so much to them and 1 wish for her and her baby and have them bound for her to pass on - it would be so personal and touching - could be funny, sentimental etc etc.
I wasn't able to go but one of my gfs had a blessing way and all the people going donated a 50 x 30 cms piece of fabric that was used to make a birthing bunting for her as she was birthing at home!! Gorgeous idea! I don't like the whole eating chocolate out of a nappy thing (eeewwww) but my sister had a few games like cutting a ribbon as wide as my belly which was fun and blindfolded tasting of baby food! I think it's just nice being able to get together and hang out!
I really like the book idea - I hate it when you are put on the spot at a shower, to write something deep and meaningful then and there to the mum. I'd much rather time to think about it and write it well.
With the pages you can pop a note in the invite & ask them to do them and bring them with them :)

I went to a baby shower where we were given a plain white bib and were asked to decorate it with the provided fabric paints.. It was really cool to see the different designs people came up with and really sweet to see bubs wearing them...
What about organizing a mobile ultrasound to come to her house on the day of the shower to do a scan (of course, if she's comfortable showing her belly and baby to everyone). Also depends on how far along she'll be too :)
I have had two blessing ways and been to lots so here are some ideas:
Mum gets belly henna tattooed and all guests get a tattoo on their hands/feet. My friends all loved this and they felt part of those last few weeks with me. (tattoo lasts about ten days or so)
Guests bring a square of fabric for a bunting or quilt.
Guests bring a blessing to stick into a journal.
Bring a bead to make a necklace for mum (I love my necklaces and I will pass these down to my kids)
Guests wrap red string around their wrist and then cut and tie and wear it until the baby is born (reminds them to keep mother in mind)

A friend of mine had a "get together" with her first pregnancy and all the ladies sat around and each gave her a bead to make a necklace and shared their birth/mothering story. If they weren't a mum yet they shared a positive story about their mum or sister etc. in the end she had a weird looking funky necklace but it was an awesome focal piece for her during labour to remind her of her rite of passage as a mother and a woman and that she had the support of so many women that had been before her. She still treasures it.
I went to a baby shower on the weekend, just a small one, and they had some one come and do mini mani and pedis. It was a nice little girly afternoon rather than a baby shower as such. The mum to be loved it and everyone else had a good time too.

Ooo another idea that I saw at a baby shower I went to, the host asked that everyone bring a favourite book from their childhood (I brought hungry hungry caterpillar). The host made sure that noone doubled up on a book. The host also asked that we write a message to the girls (twins) in the front of the book for future and so that mum knew who each of the books were from. Also, the host asked us to bring a pampering item to add to a basket of goodies for the mum. It was a lovely idea and took the guess work out of what to bring :)
