Am i doing the right thing RE TTraining?

DS2 is 3yrs 4mths and i'm trying/hoping to toilet train. He was in cloth nappies majority of the time up until fairly recently, they've lost their absorbancy and he kept wetting through them so i'm now using disposables. We've talked about using the toilet most nappy changes and he has a big brother so he knows what i'm talking about. Up until now i have sat him on the toilet occasionaly to do a wee with no sucess. For example before a bath, he tries and says no and then pretty much wees the second he's in the bath :wall: The last few days he's been happy to wear jocks (training pants) but he's wet every time. Most of the time he'll tell me he's done a wee.

I really really want him toilet trained but don't know my chances. I'm thinking he's getting close to 3.5ish he should be getting close to being ready, if i keep putting jocks on he'll get it eventually or is he just not ready and i'm waisting my time? I just need a little reasurance as to if i should keep going or not?

Argh, :hug: toleit training is painful (well I found it to be!) My DS refused to be toliet trained for over a year! But when it finally happened he pretty much did it himself. He did the same thing as your DS on the potty and the toliet.
I ended up buying a step and a $5 insert from kmart and made one of our toliet's 'his' toliet (closest to his room) Then he just used it all the time. No coaxing, he just went, like a switch had flicked. That was in jan 2011 and he has only had 4 accidents since then. He night toliet trained himself then too, as well as number 2's. It was incredible!

The best thing that worked for both of my kids (DS was 3 and DD was just gone 2) when TTing was turfing nappies totally. NEVER putting them back on regardless (unless they had a bout of the runs...).

They very quickly associate that wet yucky feeling with that full bladder feeling and then with going to the toilet.


I tried a potty but both kids viewed it as more of a toy than something to wee in, and preferred the toilet with a seat and step instead.

DS1 TT in feb this year at 3 years 7 months. We had tryed numerous times before hand sitting him on toilet or potty regularly to no avail every few months for 8 months. 1 morning I just put him in undies and sent him to CC (had spoken to them week before about his lack of interest and the said just put him in undies and send lots of clothes) he had no accidents that day (only in cc 1 day a week) and 2 days later had 1 wee accident outside, and 1 more accident the week after. Poo's we had a many accidents over 10 days until he finally figured out where to do them. Have had no issues since. He wakes up dry most mornings but I am not ready to risk a night until I get washing under control!

We had bought a potty, padded kids toilet seat, cheap plastic toilet seat and steps with a toilet seat. Steps have been fav.

It's so hard and disheartening when they just don't get it or don't want to get it. It's been a looong day today. Thankfully he seems to be doing #2 first thing in the morning when he has a nappy on then we've been in jocks since.

Niadalla that's what i keep telling myself, no nappies keep trying. He knows the wet feeling because he's done it about 10 times today, he tells me too late.

He seems fairly confident in sitting on the toilet but i don't think he has figured out how to sit and let the wee come. He trys to push through is bottom to get a wee out.

I'll try again tomorrow and see how we go.

He'll work out once he understands the full bladder feeling ;) When he does do his first wee (and I'm sure you already know this) make a MASSIVE deal about it. Watch him totally figure out TTing from there ;)

I know, the first wee on the toilet is the hardest. He just needs to understand his body. I'm trying to stay positive but it's tough, timing on my part may not be great AF is due tomorrow i'm so grumpy :(

ETA He just did a wee on the toilet!!!!!! It took all day but he did it. Lets just hope this is the beginning now ladies. Thanks for replying and encouraging me along :)

With DS, we tried the no nappy thing for months, and months and months..... he just didn't get it. till he did. when he was about 3 he just suddenly started asking to use the toilet. I think before that he just couldn't anticipate it quickly enough :dunno:

I wouldn't have tried DS before he turned 3 without nappies. I don't think he would have got it. DD on the other hand, just wanted to be like her brother. ;)

WOOHOO on the wee in the toilet!! Here's hoping it's the beginning of many! :)

Niadalla i was hoping DS2 would have been slightly quicker than DS1 being that he had someone to follow too. Not the case though. But i'm looking forward to tomorrow :) DD might surprise me though, most say that girls are a little quicker and easier.
