What do you get a new baby for christmas?

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here given Shoopy isn't even done cooking yet, but with all the toy sales happening now it got me thinking - What on earth do I get my new baby (who will be 3-4months old) for christmas?

She's going to get so much in the way of clothes and little toys from friends and family and I just don't know what to do. That young, it feels like if I buy something I should just give it (whatever 'it' is) to her to play with/wear when I get it. Waiting until christmas morning seems like it's much more for me and DF and DF hates waiting to give presents until the day as it is!

What has everyone else done for their little one's first christmas?

TBH I don't see the point in getting anything for someone who only wants boobs and huggles.
If you must buy something get some nice jewellry and wear it yourself until she is old enough to look after it herself.

Dd3 just got stuff I would have normally needed to get her. So nappy cream, nice bath stuff :) and that was more only so the other kids didn't get upset that she missed out :)

We got a Jumperoo thing when DS was about 10 weeks old. It was in November so we called it his Christmas present. I don't recall actually getting him anything for the actual day, although we were far from family so didn't really bother with Christmas that year. I don't think my girls got much for their first Christmas either.

Maybe a nice keepsake thing?

We might be considered total Scrooges but we didn't bother with our kids and presents much until they got the whole birthday christmas thing.
What about a nice Christmas stocking or tree ornament? Not relevant to the sales much. Books of all shapes, fabrics, textures and sounds are great for babies. Toys will come probably from family. You don't need to overdo it.

DD was about 6 mo then... from memory a sandpit, educational toys - things to get her moving, stimulated etc..., clothes

My son was 1 month old for his first Christmas. We bought him a baby gym thing because the one from our first son had broken. I know he got a few other things like a jack in the box from my sister but we didn't buy much at all.

ETA: I figure you can buy presents for up until the next birthday... so if they'll be 9 months old at the next birthday then consider any musical toys, push trolley walker things, anything they may use before that age.

For DS & DD they were both 5 months for their first Christmas. For DS we bought him a toy box, books & clothes. For DD we got her clothes, headbands, books & cute little "pram" shoes. So really just stuff that we'd normally buy anyway.

My DD was 6 weeks old this past Christmas and me and DP decided not to get her anything as we felt it would be pointless. Clothes she had heaps of and she was too young to enjoy toys. And we knew she was going to be spoilt rotten by family...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I feel like it's kinda pointless, especially since everyone else will spoil her big time, but I just can't imagine not giving her *something* for her first christmas. Some kind of keepsake is a great idea!

My son was 4 weeks. We bought him a Dr Seuss book and we both wrote messages in the front.

DD was 4 months, and she got a lot, total overkill, she had no idea, and it was totally unnecessary, but we did just get her things that she'd grow into and enjoy over the next 6 months. She eventually used and enjoyed most of it though.

This bub won't even be 4 weeks probably so it'll just be for DD's sake really... so it'll be a present from DD, and some clothes from Santa, probably whatever bub needs at the time... possibly fluffy nappies ROFL!

FWIW, the toy sales are crap unless you have your eye on something. I wouldn't buy something just because you think it's on special because most of it is BARELY a special and wouldn't even catch your eye without the colourful sale tag. Big W is scam x1000000 since most things are at their usual price, they've just chucked a tag on it, but if you look closely, most tags just say "Big W price" which means the usual non-sale price, with the exception of a few things that actually are on sale but in such limited supply that you'd be lucky to see them on the shelves today, let alone when the sale starts.

This bub will be about 8 days old on Christmas day (if I go on my EDD), we're so not getting anything. Maybe a little Willow Tree for our collection, that's what DD got for her birthday.

DS was 6 weeks or so Christmas just gone, from santa he got a couple of lamaze toys, a few romper suits and some board books. From family and friends he got more clothes (a number of them in the next size up which was brilliant) and some toys that suited a range of ages up to about 9 months - we stashed them on a shelf in his room and have gradually been bringing them out as he's reached the various stages of being able to play with them (so sitting, crawling etc).

This year I want to get him a few book sets (Spot, Hairy McLairy) and a push along/ride on toy. Probably some more clothes as well, but am going to wait to see what the family give him for his birthday as they tend to go a bit nuts.

My first born was I think 4 months old for his first xmas. We did as a PP said and got him things for up until his next birthday, so he received an activity table, shape sorter, ball, books.

Next son was due a couple of weeks before last xmas, born on the 2nd of December so not very old! Again we gave him things to last til his birthday which was almost a year away. From memory he got a few rattle type toys, plus toys that were 6 month+ as he won't be getting anything through the year.

This bub will be less than 2 weeks old but DD is really into Christmas and giving and won't understand why baby gets nothing whilst she does. So I am thinking one of those activity mats (we were leant one for DD and it was awesome), some gender specific clothes, and maybe a toy for the pram or something. But mostly they will get booby milk. And love from us.

Bub will be 2 weeks old when Christmas rocks around so I have got 2 Lamaze toys and a mat for the floor. I just get things I would already buy bub and wrap them :lol:

Our dd was 2 weeks old and we got her a special Christmas book and we wrote in the front of it. We also got her a sock monkey and a special blanket.
