My girls started sharing at about 10m and 3.5 years - they have shared ever since and are now 3 and 6. They love sharing and sleep better together, which is great when going on holidays and camping etc. Another benefit is that the 3rd bedroom is a spare room/toy room so they don't have any toys in their bedroom. I think it has made them closer as sisters and they have learned to share and compromise.
I think you should trial it. If there are any issues you can always put them in separate rooms.
My DD's have always shared a room because we don't have enough bedrooms, it was fine when they were younger but now that they're older it's a nightmare.
I would really like to put my two in the one room when DS is ready, but when i have mentioned it everyone says it is a bad idea. think i am going to do it anyway!
I'm seriously considering it too. The only thing stopping me really is the thought of moving furniture around.
I say go for it :)
DH wanted to put our 2 in the same room when bub was a bit older but we'll have a 5 year gap which is a bit much.
My sister and I shared a room for most of our childhood and when we were moved into our own rooms, we'd still end up in the same room anyway.
I say go for it. Be prepared for some playing before actual sleeping until the novelty wears off ;)
DD3 & DS share at 20 months & 4. But they hardly sleep in there anyway
DDs 1 & 2 started sharing at 9 months & 3, & were fine til they were 3 & 6. I seperated them, but I've had to put them back in together. I'll be splitting them up again very soon!
I'd do it for now, then see what happens when they're a bit older.
Thanks ladies. Sounds like the consensus is to go for it! Hmmm, I think I will! Let you know how it goes! I like the idea of having the extra room as a spare/play room. Now I'm just waiting for their new beds to arrive, I ordered them months ago!
I stressed for a while about putting my sons together. The older was just over 2 years & his brother just over 1. Don't know why I was worried because it all went strangely well and as someone else mentioned they sleep much better. DS1 likes the thought of DA2 being there in the night keeping him company
NO!! Don't do it! They play, talk, trash the bedroom together and drive you nuts when they don't go to sleep until midnight!!!!! I regret ever ever doing it!
Sunshine is right they do talk and play etc. But I think its great for kids to share a room and you can just build a routine around it. we put them to bed earlier and let them play abit, then calm them with a snack of cheese and a story or two and then sleep

DS1 is nearly 4 and DS2 nearly 2 and 1/2 and they have been sharing a room and king single at there own decison and idea for about 2 months now.
DS2 has co slept mostly since birth and only got him into his cot in Feb this year!
We have issues some nights with them annoying each other and fighting and throwing toys out of bed etc but all in all it seems to work well and they sleep well together. Some nights they take hrs and lots of putting back into bed and light off but not all the time.
Plan always was for kids to share a room but was planning on waiting until DS2 was sleeping better! But has slept better since being in bed with DS1.
When DD was about 6 months we moved her into DS's (6) room. What a nightmare. DD would see him and want to play, keeping him awake. We tried and tried but eventually moved her bed back into our room so she would fall asleep alone and we could sneek in when she is alsleep. I cannot wait for our house to be complete so we can all have our own rooms!
My girls have been sharing a room since DD2 was around 6ish months and DD2 3.5. DD2 was still co-sleeping up until that point but on a holiday really loved being with her Big Sister. I love it as some mornings we go in and they are there fast asleep on the same bed! sooo cute!
Ooh no! Now I'm undecided again! I have 2 king singles. I was thinking of just squishing both up together and making a massive bed for them? I guess we can only try...
I have all 3 in the one room.
Bunk beds and a single bed. Granted mine are somewhat older but it's been this way for quite some time. I have always been quite strict with bed time so we rarely have any playing or stuffing around. Not my friends say I'm lucky regarding their sleeping habits though.
There are no toys kept in the sleeping room though.

My two talk but have never trashed the room or stayed awake until midnight. We are having problems now that dd1 is 13 and dd2 is 9. Dd1 has a later bed time and thinks its ok to watch tv in her room, which keeps dd2 awake. Having friends sleep over is an issue as well because of the age gap. Everything was fine up until dd1 started high school though. I need an extra bedroom.
I'd say trial it for a few months and see how you go. Our two boys 4 and 2.5 share a room and initially the oldest wasn't too keen on sharing 'his room'. However, after a sleepover at g'ma & g'pa's where they shared a room, he was all keen for his younger brother to 'sleep over' in his room. He did ask after a few days when his brother would be returning to his own room. It went well for the first month or so and then they started playing up, taking, jumping out of bed, etc. We knew that the novelty would wear off, which it has and the eldest falls asleep really quickly. The only downside is that they both wake up really early - one will always wake the other one up.
It does make bedtime stories quicker too, as one sits on the lap and the other sits on a bed and we read the same stories to both of them.
