Roses

Hopefully all you green thumbs can help with this.

When dd was born I got given an amazing arrangement of roses from my parents. 2 weeks later they were ready to be thrown out. DH kept one out for me that was still alive so I put it in come water and left it on the widow sill.

The rose has now started to shoot in about 4 places along the stem. The flower has died now and is drying but the stem is still completely green and the shoots are growing.

Can I do something with it? Can I plant it or anything? They were beautiful roses and actually had a fragrance. Would love to be able to have a plant from it...not sure I that's wishful thinking though :)

I reckon it sounds like it's "striking", I think that's the term when you try to start a new plant from an existing one.

If you google striking roses you'll probably find some useful information.

Sorry I can't help anymore, it sounds like it's taking off though which is great!

You could help it along with some rooting powder/gel, you only need a tint bit. Then put it into a small pot with coarse potting mix (make sure it drains well) and make sure you water frequently but let it drain between waters.

I agree with MD. If you don't have rooting powder you can use honey as well
