I'm scared for her
So they have put my DD2 (3.5yrs) on Salbutamol, apparently if it helps with her coughing and wheezing it is a sign that she does have asthma!
She is also on predmix. Her coughing is worse then the wheeze
Asthma scares the crap out of me!
What type of life is my bubba girl going to have?
Is it really that bad?
Any advice or words of wisdom to help me cope with this? yes me not her  i seem to be the one not coping with it all :shakehead:

My DD1 is asthmatic. Its not severe here though. She still plays sports etc. Sometimes she'll have issues, but usually its worse in general for a few weeks, so sport is affected, but then it settles again for a month or 2.
Hers was triggered by chest infections & an allergy to mould at 2.
We used to use a preventer. Til about 3 years ago. Because we only have attacks every few months we don't need to use it full time.
DD still lives a very normal life. Has never been hospitalised for it. There's every chance your DD could just have a mild case as well. Lots of kids grow out of it (my sister did).

Oh I have no idea sorry but just wanted to give you some  How scary.

Heaps of people with asthma have completely normal lives - not everyone has to carry around oxygen tanks in the car and get raced to hospital all the time. That is only very severe cases.
My DH has had asthma since childhood and the only inconvenience is Dr appointments for scripts and getting them from the pharmacy. And that isn't even an issue in Oz because inhalers can be purchased over the counter after the initial script.
DH still goes for runs, goes out hunting on freezing mornings etc. He just makes sure he has an inhaler with him. I have known him for 13 years and he has never had to go to hospital due to asthma.
You will both be fine xx

My Cousin had very severe asthma as a child/teen but has pretty much outgrown it now she runs and goes to the gym without getting breathless

im sorry your DD has asthma, it is a scary disease. i am asthmatic and i was always playing sport and very active as a kid. mine is triggered by allergies, cold air and illness. i still use a preventer (when not pg) daily but this is related to my allergy to pine trees and us having 6 in view of our house!! when we were not living near pine trees it was no issue and i went for 18mths without using any meds of any kind. my hubby is also asthmatic but only needs to use an inhaler one maybe twice a year. the thing to remember is that everyones is different, a lot of asthmatics can go their whole life without being hospitalised etc and properly managed your DD shouldnt have much trouble living a normal life

I was severely asthmatic as a child, (from about 6-8weeks! due to bronchial infection of some kind) I also had a quite bad heart murmur, all that combined had me at the hospital every month for the first 5 years of my life, (seeing a paediatric cardiologist ) I know mum rushed me to hospital a few times as I was blue, wheezing etc.. but it was only ever when I got sick, and when I got sick I got VERY sick.
After I turned 5, the heart specialist gave me the all clear (no surgery) and I seemed to have out grown the asthma too.
I did have a reoccurance of it in my teens, but only because of my stupid decision to start smoking :(
One of my brothers also had quite sever asthma, he would be on a nebuliser almost every night, but he outgrew it too.
Big huggles Harms, I know it's scary, but you are a super mum and B will be fine :) do you have an asthma management plan worked out with your paed/gp? ask them any and all questions/fears /worries you have, thats what they are there for! :)

I'm sorry your little girl has asthma. My DD was diagnosed around 6 weeks ago. Hers was triggered by having a chest infection and the wheezing was so loud at one point, was very scary. I don't have a lot of advice for you as we are just finding our feet with it too. We have a preventor and ventolin which we used while she was sick and we also kept using the preventor for a week after she got better. My doctor said start using the preventor again at the first sign of any cough/cold and hopefully by doing that we can avoid it developing into a wheeze/asthma attack. Thankfully hers doesn't seem to be triggered by exercise, only having a virus/cold and cold air seems to make her a bit wheezy too.
Big hugs and fingers crossed that you can figure out a management plan that works for her xo

Thank you so much everyone! My brother was a really bad asthmatic when he was younger and i so remember vividly to this day his attacks and the ambulance to hospital! Working for the QAS too has had me seeing and hearing some really bad asthma attacks and i guess that is where i have gotten my fear from! i have only ever seen it as a bad dibilitating disease. So it is really good to hear that some go on to lead "normal" lives and others out grow it! LOL as if i wasn't over protective mother in the first place, now this is only going to make it worse, but i am sure i will eventually get use to it all.
Sangie i just saw you thread before i replied to this and your thread sounds exactly like your circumstances! it was as if i wrote it myself! I really hope our bubba's grow out of it :) it does help though knowing someone else is going through exactly the same thing
