How to stop wee coming out of the leg of nappy..

So I'm now having a new issue with DD and her nappies...

We haven't yet started TTing, but for about the past week (or could be a little bit longer) she will do a massive wee and it will not all soak into the nappy and most will come out the leg holes and onto her pants (or into a pool if she is sitting down).

She will have a fairly dry nappy before this occurs it just seems that as she does soooo much in one go the nappy can't hold it all. This happened the other day at the shopping centre and i didn't have a spare pare of pants for her - only a spare nappy - so I had to go and buy a new pair of pants to change her into.

Once she has wet herself she will tell me she has done a wee, but of course this is after the event has occured. She is in disposable nappies and is in the largest size available - I've used huggies and currently using Aldi brand and I will also use Pampers as well (this is what I have for the twins) and so far all have had the same issue.

Can anyone recommend anything that will help, I've heard of using training pants over the top to help with leakage but I don't know if this would work for the amount of leakage we get.

Does your DD need to be in the largest size? Perhaps they are too big and that is why it is leaking. Also, when DD was in nappies, I made sure I 'untucked' around the legs ITMS

RhiChiChi: Yeah she needs to be in the larger size, she weighs about 14kg's - so not big for a almost 3yr old - but the smaller size is too tight around her tummy and legs and they rub so I had to go the next size up. I've also tried nappy pants to help with the rubbing issue but we still has the same leakage issue in them as well.

Maybe it is just something we need to work with and who knows it might kick start her into TTing if she keeps wetting herself...

Not sure whatelse to suggest unless you change brands or nappies?

Could you put a second nappy over the top? Or get some cloth inserts and put them in the disposable?

Cloth inserts might be an option, and I could use them later on with the boys as well. Do you have any brands you would recommend?

My biggest concern is that this will happen when we are travelling and she wets her carseat through as well, although I have seen a company that has things you can put into the carseat sitting part for accidents when TTing. Might have to do some investigating I think.

You could just put a terry toweling nappy in her carseat. I was going to suggest that you start TT now. This is what started happening with my DS (although he was in cloth) and not long after he trained. He would hold his wees then when he let go, his nappy would leak and he'd say "mummy wee". His daycare started putting him on the toilet after every nappy change and we tried to do that at home too. When he started doing his wee's in the toilet, we gave him his big boy undies and he clued on pretty quick. Refused to wear nappies again except to bed. After a handful of no 2's in his undies, he figured that part out too. Give it a go. She might be trying to tell you she's ready & you then can save a fortune on her nappies :)

I'll have a look through my stash and see what would fit. I'm thinning a tri fold, maybe? Or even just the top layer from an itti bitti...

My dd did this at a younger age, due to her size she was in small nappies for her age, I swapped to cloth and it worked. Though maybe starting on tt could help.

Oh Rowellen I hadn't thought of that with the holding it in and then going in one big gush, would sort of make sense though.

I do have training pants already so maybe as this weekend we don't have anything planned I'll get DH to wrangle the twins and we might give TT a go. Thanks so mich for the ideas :)
