Post D&C Check up - Please Share Experiences

Hi ladies,
I am not sure what responses I will get here, as I am possibly expecting too much of our lovely health care system, and after today, I'm slightly peeved at them!:wall:

So please share with me, unless of course it truly angers you beyond belief, as I'm thinking of sending a letter to the head of obstetrics at the hospital, to outline the ways in which they could improve their new Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic and the shall we say, communication within the staff.

I would like just see if if it was a kind of once off, a mild experience or if the level of care is what I should expect always.

What happened? I'm sorry to hear you've been treated badly.

I'm not really sure what you're after, but I'll try to guess and answer. We had a private OB, so my post-d&c check up was with him. We had to wait 6 weeks, he gave us the results of the chromosomal testing and explained what they meant, asked how long I bled and if it had stopped and said there was no reason to expect any problems conceiving again and he hoped to see us back this year (ha ha ha, no problems my #*$&#* - he got that bit very wrong).

Exactly what I was hoping for.
I wasn't entirely treated badly, more felt like an inconvenience and the poor OB that saw me felt like he'd been cornered to 'deal' with me. He did the best he could in a sucky situation. Considering its a newish program in place, I'm hoping the will want feedback.

I think if you have ideas about areas you felt you were let down in, sending a letter is a great idea and more constructive then just a complaint.
It is something very few places deal well with. And its a time when we are very emotional to make it harder.
Im sorry you had an experience that was less then what you needed or expected. :hug:
I have had some experiences that I felt were truely awful but not in the au system

Ah, I see. It has to be one of the most unpleasant parts of their jobs, but just as important to get right. I was happy with how our OB handled the whole process - diagnosis, d&c and follow up. He was very calm and reassuring.

If you can keep the emotion out and offer constructive criticism, then I'm sure the letter will be well-received.

Let's just say that helped us make the decision for a homebirth and private IM next time. I still feel angry when I see her name

He obviously missed the bedside manner classes - what a jerk!

I did write the letter without the emotibecame focused it more on the importance of clear communication, and getting processes in place, especially when dealing with miscarriages. I was more angry that the OB who performed the op, had said she would try to sent off or get results from what she could. And she was aware of the previous results, other medical history etc. BUT somehow she forgot about my appointment and wasn't even rostered on!!
To add to it, the receptionist kept insisting that I should have attended an appointment the day before (was supposed to be my first antenatal appt) which I had asked to be cancelled when I went for the d&c!
And then when finally seeing the poor OB that had to 'deal' with me, the only room vacant was a Pre labour room! With all the posters and info on the walls! He didn't even have any of my records, he knew of no results, he just rang my GP to see the results of BT from when I was pregnant!

Yes I was less than impressed!

MLR1901, that's pretty rotten. When the world comes crashing down, you really need the processes to run smoothly. I hope they make some positive changes based on your feedback so that no-one else has the same experience. :hug:

L&B, gotta love those Drs who tell us to "look on the bright side". I keep getting "mother nature did you a favour"... :rolleyes: It's one thing for us to grasp at any positives to cope, but other people are just dismissing our pain when they do it.

Hi sweetie, it seems their bad manners and poor communication are normal!

The doctors at the hospital told me that they wern't going to bother testing after the d&c!
I then got a call 4 weeks later telling me that they did do tests and told me the results over the phone.
He did mention about 4 times that he didn't even know why they bothered testing?
Then he just hung up!

They just need to have some empathy! It's part of their job and they need to be professional and not add comments that are unneccary!

mine is similar, but with our GP. we don't have a "particular" favourite doctor, because our last one went back to his country, so since then we just use anyone.

we got a BFP, i booked an appt for 2 days later to have a blood test to check my HCG levels. after my blood test, we had an appt with a male doctor for him to let us know the results. my HCG levels were 104, but prior to me having my BFP i had a strange 3 day bleed.

i let the doctor know, and without any thoughts or other scenarios, he point blank said to us "you've definitely had a miscarriage, these things happen" my fiance and i were just shocked.... i mean yes that's a possibility, but it could have been an implantation bleed, it could have been spotting, it could have been many things.

excuse my language but he was a damn right willyhead, and we will NEVER ever go back to see him. but unfortunately he was right.. we did M/C but that's not the point.

doctors need lessons on how to respond to different situations... it's awful and pathetic.

I was told to be grateful it wasn't molar. And that his daughter had 3 miscarriages and then 3 boys so I should be grateful I'd only had two.
