Gutted!

So my ob was open to attempt to turn bubs as s/he is breech at 37 weeks but bum has been firmly engaged for over three weeks now and he has decided that with my previous csection scar it's too risky, he is open to birth bubs breech if I arrive more than 4/5 cm dilated but utter wise he is booking in a date.

I'm not angry at having another c section but scared of what the recovery will be with a nb and toddler in toe. I want to be back to my life ASAP after delivery. I know ppl do it. And he is happy for me to attempt a VBAC2 should we be blessed again

Yep, totally sucks! How do you feel about vaginal breech? Is the ob very skilled at it? Or have you pretty much decided on csection?

Fingers crossed baby turns. My brother turned breech to head down at 42 weeks!

I had a csection with DS2 when DS1 was 2. I recovered much better second time round, I was driving after about 4wks and found I could do most things with DS1. He had to be reminded to be careful of mummy's tummy and we encouraged him to get onto his bed/the car etc on his own with little help from me. When he needed to be changed I did it on his bed. He learnt how to climb into the bath using his potty (it has a lid on it) and generally helped me out. I would sit down to cuddle him but tried to keep things as much the same as they had always been for him. Fingers crossed that bubs turns but if that doesn't happen, things will probably go smoother second time round.

I found my second recovery to be better pain wise, however I was really messed up from the infection I got from it - that was hard with a 19 month old and a newborn!

Like I said on facebook, mine didn't turn till 38 weeks, so there is always hope. Start doing those half handstands in the shower and squats - worked for me lol

I'm sorry that it looks like baby won't turn and that you will miss out on your VBAC, there is still time :)

I have now had 3 CS with a 4th in March and each did get better and better, I learnt a lot with my first, I walked as much as possible as early as possible, this helped a lot and I also laid the bed flatter (only a small incline) the night following my CS as I remember after my first 5 days later laying flat was still uncomfortable but with my second I was flat and able to lay on ,y side by night 3.

This time around I will have a 4.5 yo, 3yo and 18 month old then the newborn of course and I am not worried about the pain or recovery at all, it does get easier each time, really :)

my boy turned after 40 weeks, but he hadn't engaged his bum yet. hope your bub turns for you.

Try moxibustion, I know a few people who had success spinning their bubs using it. :hug: I really hope you get your VBAC and I also found my second elective much easier than my first after 36 hours of labour - recovery wasn't pleasant but not impossible and I had a 17 mth old xoxoxo Good luck hun! My ob is amazing and I do love him. He is very pro VBAC and very pro breech delivery but not the two together (which is what I want)

I got an email back from my ob to say he is happy for me to try acupuncture and that bubs is frank breech and currently engaged.

No order my pelvis is in pain lol. I just hope bubs hips will be ok and not in a brace too long

I understand it's not what you want personally, but don't despair if you do end up with a c/s.

I was devastated at the thought of it, but I was able to drive (with a written Dr's consent and all, after a full physical examination) one week after the c/s, I was home after three nights in hospital, my 21 month old coped perfectly well, and while I didn't overdo it, I was able to get out of the house every couple of days (to the Drs, the park, friends' places, library, shops etc) very quickly, and the only thing to suffer was the housework a bit :)

I did get a bit of an infection, but it cleared up very quickly after one round of anti-bs, and neither I nor my DS got thrush, and five months on he's still exclusively bf and I have quite a bit of EBM stored, ready when he needs it. It didn't hurt my supply, my bonding, or anything.

I recovered much faster from my c/s then I did from my natural birth.

I know that's not everyone's experience, but the horror stories

My first born was frank breech with no space to move due to low amniotic fluid, she was delivered by CS, she did not need a hip brace :)

But DS2 was breech from 27 weeks, very low amnio fluid, no chance of turning, and he was not in a brace at all. They did measure him at birth and got it completely wrong because they couldn't stretch him out!

I hope that acu and moxi works for you and you get a VBAC.

I've now got a date. A little earlier than my ob wanted but if I can choose a date it's going to work for me I guess (as crewel as that feels) my mum is here for two weeks only so I want to be at home for that time with her as much as I want her to be at the birth as she was with DS.

My ob and I are both hoping for bubs to turn with the ap and standing on my head but he's not holding out much hope as bubs is engaged

Hi everyone, first post. Husband/dad posting, since wife/mum is not so keen on Internet forums, but happy for me to do so - and I didn't see any explicit 'no men allowed' messages (:

We discovered today that our bub is breech at 35 weeks, and were told that there was really no choice but to have another c/s. There are no other complicating factors (bub is healthy, scar from first c/s is fine, etc). We're pretty disappointed and there have been a few tears and some comfort eating, and now we're trying to figure out what to do next. There's plenty of info and support for breech, and plenty on VBAC, but not so much on both.

Is there research out there to support ECV or breech VBAC? The obstetrician was pretty clear that he was against it. We tried a range of turning techniques last time (including ECV & moxibustion) to no avail.

Hi Greg,

There is still opportunity for baby to turn. My large (10lb+) baby turned through rebozo at 40 weeks (and earlier - he just moved again). Have you looked at the 'spinning babies' website?

Is seeing another care provider an option?

Is delaying the c section an option so that baby has more chance to turn, and baby has more of a chance to choose their birthday?

Maybe repost your post as a thread too, so that more people will see it and can offer advice.

Nothing to do with it being an unsafe option, but an obstetrician untrained in breech birth (why bother when there are tools/surgery to make it quicker and easier?). I'd rather change Obs and find someone who would support me, knows what they are doing and is trusting of the process.
