Miscarriage pain

I have a question about miscarriage pain. I understand this is a sensitive topic, but I can't forget the pain I had last year when I m/c. I can't shake the feeling that the pain I had is somehow linked to further fertility problems that have not been discovered.

The morning I m/c I had intense sharp stabbing pains mixed with a dull all over ache that spread across my hips and through to my back and stomach. I imagine they were close to mild contractions??? The part that felt really abnormal was the stabbing pains. I would only feel them when I sat down and the pressure from sitting made it feel like knives were stabbing up into my uterus from my bottom. Kinda like I was sitting straight onto a knitting needle or something. I got called into work early that morning so I had to just bear it, but trying to drive to work feeling like i was sitting on knife was horrible :(

Is this normal? Did anyone else feel this kind of pain?
I worry it has something to do with my infertility.......

Could it have been your cervix dilating?

I'll never forget the pain either. It was unlike any pain I've ever felt. Even having had 2 drug-free births. I'll never forget how weak I felt in the moment for not coping with the pain I was experiencing even at one point during the labour saying out aloud to DP "Was I this bad during the girls births?".

i had no pain whatsoever. i was 5 weeks.

For me it was like extremely bad period pain. And now that I've had babies I know it was just like contractions. It was somehow worse though. I think because of the emotional side. There was no happy ending, the pain was for nothing :(

I'm sorry you had to go through that too. Can you ask your Dr about it?

Hmmm, so the stabbing pains are probably not normal? What could have caused it I wonder?

Heaven, I think I will ask because it just doesn't sound normal. I have PCOS, but it sounds a bit like endometreosis.

Your cervix closes when you become pregnant, so to miscarry, yes, it needs to dilate. I had the stabbing pains, but I also had them during periods and sometimes in my cycle. Do you know if you have endometriosis? That can be a common symptom amongst women with endo. But I think stabbing pain is something a lot of women who m/c experience.

I have no fertility issues, but yes, I had a very painful miscarriage, stabbing pains, aching and throbbing and contractions.

I had very painful contractions, stabbing pains, aches and pains going through my front to my back with 5 of my 6 miscarriages (6th was a missed miscarriage and I didn't feel a thing). Certainly the stabbing pain is something I have felt all those times, so I think it is a normal miscarriage experience.

Yes very bad pain as you described and felt like contractions in that they ended up being closer and closer together. I was doubled over in pain and ended up in ED on morphine.

One of my mc was like this. very painful and included sharp stabbing pains. But i did have adhesions on my cervix (from a previous mc) that i hadnt dealt with. This might be TMI but sometimes when there has been some blood on the cervix for a bit of time it can cause irritation and that can cause the stabbing pains. So if the baby had passed a little bit before the bleeding started coming down, this *could* account for it.

One of the clues i had that the cervix was irritated was that after the second mc, DTD would sometimes irritate the cervix and cause similar stabbing pains. just a thought...

So maybe it is normal then?? I think I might mention it to my GP next time I'm there anyway.
I don't have any endo symptoms besides heavy bloating. AF is definitely not heavy or crampy.

I had pains like that for about 4 hours until what had grown had passed through my cervix. Once I passed it, the pain ended and I had mild cramping thereafter. I do have endo, but after all the medical procedures I've been through, I've come to recognise that stabbing pain as being from the cervix. I only get pain like that during AF if I have large clots (which, again, cause the pain as they pass through the cervix).

My normal AF pain is completely different (more like someone is scrunching up my internal organs like a paper bag being scrunched into a ball).
