Birthday present for an old man with everything.

My Dad is 75 in 2 weeks.
Most years I buy him a book but I thought it might be time to break the monotony and get him something else.
Problem is he has everything he needs and if he wants anything he just buys it himself or asks me to buy it for him if it happens to be something more easily found in Australia.
He doesn't dig novelty gifts.
He's in the UK so I usually order something from Amazon UK or a UK based company with an online store.

He likes fishing, chooks, gardening (which is mainly standing around bossing about/ gossiping with his gardener)....

I would buy a book if it was something special but I can't think of anything.

So I'm guessing Fifty Shades won't cut it?

Have you had a look at the hampers that fortnum and mason do or harrods that you can order online and the deliver. i have done these a few times.

My parentals are like that, enough money to buy themselves whatever they want, whenever they want it.

What about a coffee table book of photos of your family & stories etc? I've had a few friends do those for their wedding pictures and they look pretty spesh, complete with dust-cover on the hardcover book.

The hamper might be a good idea. I'll have a look.

For most people the photo book would be awesome but Dad gave away all his photo albums a few years ago so I doubt the photo book would fly.

I'm on the verge of buying novelty socks.

Could you get him a really nice rod with a message painted on it from you and the boys (and DH?) Some really nice hooks? Or a fishing coffee table book :dunno:

Is there a fishing experience you can book for him? What type of fishing does he do? Would a fly tying course be of interest to him?

So, it has come to this.

I am stuck on my Grandad who is 72, I usually buy him crossword books or a selection of boutique beers, last year I gave him a CD, it is his birthday again in a couple of weeks.

We have started doing experience gifts for those who have everything, maybe a dinner and drinks voucher at a nice local Restaraunt? We got BIL and his partner a tapas and sangria experience a d they enjoyed it

I got him a bottle of posh scotch. He does enjoy a wee dram of an evening so I know he'll use it and enjoy it.

What about an electronic hand held game. We purchased digital yahtzee for my Pop, he thought it was the bees knees.

A gardening chair maybe. They swivel, you can put your tools in them etc

A good scotch is a great idea. ESP if he is someone that will appreciate it (as opposed to someone that will mix it with coke and have no idea it's a whole different drinking experience!!)
