I am toying with the idea of building a cubby house for my nephews. Obviously I'd love to build a you-beaut house with slide and fake kitchen and maybe 2 storeys, but I don't think it's really possible :)
Just wondering, has anyone else done it? Is it deceptively easy, or as hard as I think it would be?
I've built a number of things, including a chook pen which is similar to a cubby house!
There's a fb page called Brisbane kids that I am friends with and they have some brilliant upcycling ideas for kids kitchens on there. As to the other it will be reasonably difficult without the right tools. I would recommend a small drop saw for cutting the timber well - also useful if you need to do angles. I also have a nail gun which is fantastic - but that would require an air compressor and an outlay of about $300 all up for both.
Depending on what you choose to do, depends of the level of difficulty. Like a pitched roof would require the working out and cutting of angles. Windows would add another level of difficulty, etc.
Draw up a basic plan with sizes (work in mm for timber work) - work out what you would need and cost things out. You could get recycled tin etc from tip shops and other bits and pieces to make it cheaper.
And above all Measure TWICE cut ONCE!!
yeah i wanted to build one too (well, wanted to get DH to build one..)
got all overwhelmed and got a flatpack instead :ROFL: i felt that he could still enact his manliness etc as you still need a drill :lol:

Yep, moved some chairs and threw some queen sized sheets over it, pillows on the floor, and Bob's your uncle!! :rofl:
ooh exciting! i am thinking about making a cubby house for christmas. i want a slide out the window too!
we made an awesome chook shed, and the cubby house will be similar design.
