Nighttime Toilet Training Logisitics

Okay, so tonight is the night.... I am going to start DD who is 6 in September using a 'wee alarm', she still has a sodden night time nappy every morning. The logisitics of it is tricky...her bedroom is up a flight of stairs from our bedroom in a converted attic, the closest toilet is down the bottom of these stairs. So, while DH is away, I thought I would have her in bed with me, when the alarm goes off, I can help her with it and she can use my ensuite toilet which is five steps away. She can be in bed with me for a couple of weeks until she gets the hang of having to go to the loo when the alarm goes off, etc, etc.

But after she goes back to her own bed, I am a bit uneasy about her getting down the stairs to use the loo in the night in a half asleep state, afraid she will tumble down....so what do other people do in this situation.....someone said to me put a potty in her room, but her bottom is too big, what would a bedridden person use and where do I get one from....the other idea I had was to get one of those camping seat things that go over a bucket or something that people take camping???

Any other ideas from anyone?

I think what you are doing is a great idea.

Have you thought about putting a mattress on her floor and sleeping in her room instead so she can get used to going down and up the stairs while you are there?

There are bedside commodes that some elderly people use, you just empty and clean the bowl in the morning. Not sure where to find them tho, maybe an equipment hire place.
Where did you get the wee alarm from? DD1 is alos still in night nappies and waking up soaked. Was going to wait til summer when warmer and maybe less wee to start.

I am mid toilet training ds2.
We don't use nappy or pull up in him at night any more. We spent a week amping him up. Big boy no nappy etc. For 2 weeks I took him pee when I went to bed about 11 and then at 3am.
Sometimes wet bed sometimes not. A wet bed is good for stage 2.
amp child up big boy no wet bed - or big girl.
Insert potty or bucket with lid into child's room for emergency use at night.
At 11 pm pee I would put instance pad into nickers.
After a few days ds said no nappy mummy Im big
And for the most part we have dry nights now. I still do 11pm pee but he's 4. ds1 is 6 and he's Been dry for 18mths at night.

Yes the waking up at 3am.sucks but its only a few weeks and it helps the child to realise wake up is kinda needed.
We have only ever used small bucket with a lid but its ok with boys. Maybe you could get a child toilet set attachment? there must be heaps of tt stuff in au.
We found the amping up really important, making the child want to be dry made a huge difference

It's likely she will learn to hold on. We used the alarm when ds was 6 and after a couple of nights he started holding till morning. After 6 years of flooding the bed every night mind you! !

Hi Shell , you and me are in the same boat. a friend lent me the wee alarm but it is a Malem Enuresis Alarm, i think they are pretty expensive but google it and see what you can find. Good luck. x

Hey just wondering how it all went. DD is still waking up with totally wet nappy in the morning so I'm wondering is there even any point me trying.

Hi Shell, no we are still back to a soaking wet nappy, in fact, just today I was wondering if I should try again given it is school holidays and a bit more relaxed and no having to get up early in the mornings. .....the wee alarm is good because it does wake them and then you rush them to the loo so that idea is planted in their minds that as soon they need to wee they have to wake and get themselves to the loo - ours stopped working for some reason then DS2 got sick and it all went downhill. I really should try it again.

Its hard, I've just bought some of those brolley sheets but don't know how much good they'll be if she is soaking all the time. Thought I'd give it a try while its holidays like you said, more relaxed not having to rush. DD2 tho is waking up only little bit wet so she might even do it before DD1. Thought I better get trying so if down the track we do need outside help I can say I have done something.
