I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes at 26 weeks roughly, My Ob has told me if my baby is measuring large at my scan next week then I will have to have him in a hospital that is unfamiliar to me, its also 40mins away and I wont know any of the ob's or anything!
Im really petrified about it, ive maintained a safe sugar level throughout so im confident he wont be large but still worried!
Who has had GD and NOT had a large baby?

I had GD with my DS, couldn't control it with diet but did control it with insulin. He was born 8 pound, so pretty average. TBH, if the sugar levels are controlled then I don't see why the baby would grow any bigger than any other pregnancy. The data for GD is taken from Type 1 pregnancy outcomes, which is flawed because T1 pregnancies are often subject to high sugar in the first tri and throughout the entire pregnancy rather than the few weeks at the end like GD, as well as BSL's in T1 mothers being much harder to control so are likely to be much higher than GD.
Anyway, long story short - yep, it is possible to have a normal sized baby when dealing with well controlled GD.

I had GD (diet controlled) with DS1 - he was 2.9kg at full term.
I didn't have GD with DS2 and he was 3.6kg full term, nor with DS3 who was 4.5kg at two weeks overdue.
It's DEFINITELY possible to have an average-size (or bit less than average) baby when you've got GD.
PS: I birthed my 4.5kg son naturally without any dramas whatsoever ;)
I apparently had GD with DD2 and she was born at 40+2 and weighed 8pd 5 - so another "normal" sized bub :)

I havent had GD, but just had a big bubba (over 4kgs) which is bigger than many GD babies I see and hear of. I didnt need any stitches or tools to get her born. My mum always told me bigger babies are easier to birth lol, she had a 10lber too, and coped beautifully. The big baby scare tactic is nuts. Lots you can do to help make it an easier birth.
I had GD with my DD, diet controlled. she was 7ld8oz so not big at all. No GD this time around but am expecting this baby to be bigger b/c I feel bigger this time around.
Two of my gf had insulin controlled GD and one had an 11lder, the other had two babies around 6ld....

You know the issues I've been facing because I have a threatened "big baby" and not a GD in sight. I had an almost 11lb bub and it was an easier, less stressful, faster delivery than my 8lb bub. And the recovery was better.
I had GD with my first boy and it was diet controlled he was 7 pounds, GD with my daughter insulin dependant and she was 6.9 pounds and now this one I'm GD again going on insulin tomorrow and I'm measuring 2 weeks behind so maybe another average/small baby
My GD was pretty bad and couldn't be controlled with diet alone (I put on 1kg in the entire pregnancy and was really strict with what I ate). I was on insulin.
My GD baby (DD2) was 6lb 11oz.
My non-GD baby (DD1) was 8lb 10oz.
Go figure :)
My non GD baby was 9 days overdue and 7lb 12 (3.5kg) and my GD baby (diet controlled) was full term, they wouldn't allow me to go over.... Was 6lb 13 (3.1kg)

I had a friend with GD and after her scan they told her omg shes measuring 5kgs + blah etc, and her baby was born at 4kgs.
Don't panic at all, and dont let your OB pressure you too much. Unlikley the baby is going to be so large you cant get it out :)
