What kind of music is suitable for a 5 yr old (she is 5 in 2 months time)?
I am at a loss to what to let her listen to..
She currently loves listening to Justine Clarke, and loves the fairies..
What else (even artists that I can google) do girls this age listen to?
My kids love The Mudcakes and Rhys Muldoon has bought out a kids CD called I'm Not Singing. It has Kram and Tex Perkins as guests. They love it and I can listen to them without cringing :D
Taylor Swift. My kids love her and she's very clean!
ETA By clean I mean no falling out of nightclubs, half naked and high on drugs. No swearing in her songs.
DD1 (5 in Nov) stopped listening to nursery rhyme stuff a while ago :wall:
After listening to the radio for a while, I was really unimpressed with the kind of songs on the main stations, and have since found Smooth FM!
So in love with Smooth FM! They seldom play anything I would raise an eyebrow at her hearing, so all is good. She loves it! Was singing along to "Why did you have to be a heartbreaker" the other day :rofl:
These are sounding a lot more appealing than what she started singing when I was putting her pj's on tonight.. She was singing Whistle by Flo-ryder which to mr is more of a tween song, not a before school age song. A child at kindy taught her. I was hoping a few more years before that kind of music, or have I lost touch with what kids listen to?
Have just been listening in The Mudcakes on Itunes.. Might buy one of the albums for her..
Have you tried her with some classical? Liebs loves Strauss and some of Holst's Planet Suite. Elgar goes down well too.
Liebling also likes Caro Emerald, Blue, ABBA, Tom Jones (may need a bit of vetoing!), Take That, Elton John, The Police, some Bollywood and Disney songs. TBH, I'm most worried about the Disney music videos provided on their film DVDs, some of the girls need to learn about clothes and how not to cavort!
The Mudcakes is fronted by a local blues and roots singer here in Melbourne, her name is Sherry Rich. Great singer!
I second the mudcakes, I think they are great value and we have seen them live a few times. I also love their localness :)
The only problem for me is that DD who is almost 5 is getting over them. I think this has more to do with her interests in general as she is very much in to ballet and classical music at the moment (and anything princess :rolleyes:) and The Mudcakes are a little to rollicking good fun for her! She also dislikes Justine at the moment, I suspect this is because it seems to be popular with her little sister.
She has moved on to a lovely singer named Elizabeth Mitchell. I found her CD at the local library but you could get a taste of it on itunes. Favourite album is You are my Little Bird. It is a lovely album.
As mentioned before, princesses are popular and the soundtrack to Tangled with Mandy Moore always gets her singing.
DD is also really fond of Audio books at the moment and I have a good range of them if you want something a little different….
First choice here is Kitty, Daisy and Lewis (they're not a kids band but quite boppy in a bluegrass kind of way).
we borrowed one of the Putumayo kids CDs from the library the other month and the girls are just LOVING it. they really groove along, it is a nice collection of music either specifically for kids or music that can engage them but not designed specifically (which i really like).
