DD's name, and the names of our future children (have another boy and another girl locked in). all have 3 names. and one of those names is the name of a deceased relative. all the other names just happen to be characters from stories (books or movies) - but that is just where i found names i love. not a theme. only the relative is.
edit ~ just thought about it and one of my boys names is an object not a character.
Middle names are after a family member (DD1 after my sister and DD2 after MIL)
First names - old fashioned from our family heritage (so either English, Irish or Welsh) with one or more possible nicknames. Preferabaly not top 100 (DD1 fits, DD2 fit at the time of choosing, but there was a resurgence in popularity of her name and nickname that year)
No same initials (even though it did mean I did not use one of my favourite names)
Yup. Dd has a color, a Word relating to the sky or heaven, and a flower. We had another girls name picked which followed the same theme (different order). The colors related to naming them after us in one way it another.
Boys names would be named after us as well (but again Not directly using our names as we did with girl names)
I didn't have a theme as such but it turned out that both my bubs have my number 2 choices as their names. I had picked out names before meeting DH. DH didn't like my choices lol! Before even TTC DS, I had picked out a second girls name since DH hated my girls name choice so much. Then I changed jobs and it was my bosses daughter's name :wall:. When pg with DS, I did a list of about 20 names of each that I liked & put them in order of preference. DH picked my number 2 from the boys list. The number 1 is his middle name. When pg with DD, it was a bit harder as I had taken her name off the list due to the boss's daughter. Since we had so much trouble, I ended up putting it back in. Guess what we choose? Yes, my number 2 name again. Her middle name is a family name though. Funnily enough, my former boss has recently had a baby and given her the same name lol! Because I had dismissed it, it didn't come up in discussions if DS was a girl and we choose a different girls name for him. A friend then named her baby the girls name we had chosen for DS in between DS & DD's births.
Not really. Either a family/ traditional name as a middle name and simple first names since DS has limited speech.
Related to Australian flora for us.
Girls were deserts with the family middle name. If we had a boy they were having a car theme with middle name of a relative who passed.
No feral names.
No names with a Y in them.
All of my boys' names (including middle names ) are family names.
Something that is shortened to a name that I like too. Because here in 'Straya we always shorten long names (and lengthen short ones) !
No names with Y in them and I try to not have letters that go below the line ie g p q etc - it hasn't been too difficult as DDs name could be spelt with either a y or an i so we chose the i spelling (both spellings are common I refuse to do 'made up' spellings)
There is a p in the surname and that does bother me a little bit but alas I don't have that surname (yet LOL) so I have been able to 'get over it' per say.
No same initials as other immediate family members.
No same initials for first and middle names.
No naming after anyone's exact name - each child should have their own name but we did give DD a middle name that to us represents someone. Representing is ok, duplicating is not.
No rhyming names.
I think that is most of my rules that make up my theme :)
No J names - our surname starts with J
No names ending in N - our surname ends in N
No naming after anyone's names (even variations)
No weird/alternative spellings
No A names - the kids surname starts with A.
All have 4 letters in them.
Have a connection to Irish/Celtic names - surname is an Irish name, my name is Irish (although DS1's name is Welsh it is Welsh Celtic :)).
All middle names have a family connection, my sisters first born has my dad's name as his middle name, my brothers twins have our grandfathers names as their middle names and my DD has my mother and grandmothers name (my mum and nan have the same first name). The twins, DS1 has my dad's middle name and DS2 has a family name on DH's side :)
Simple names that easy to spell and pronounce and also not overly popular names but not really uncommon names either :)
Both boys have Saints names for first and middle names, and their middle names are family names.
We have an alphabetical theme going, me= Amy DH= Benjamin DS1= Cooper DS2= Daylen so ABCD. Bub #3 (when we get round to it) will be either Eli for a boy or Ecko for a girl. DSs middle names are family names and our last name starts with P and is one syllable so first names have to be a minimum of 2 syllables or it will sound funny. I love names that are a little out there but aren't completely different, though having said that some of the names i suggest to DH just make him look at me like I have a 3rd eye
DH has a "J middle names for boys" thing, which is FLIPPING DIFFICULT
Both of our kids are named after characters from the Doctor Who universe, but that wasn't a hard-and-fast rule, it just happened that we liked those names. The alternate names (Isabelle/Oscar) weren't from TV at all.
I was always going to have my name as one of my daughters' middle names, because my mum and I got our middles from our mothers. I was scared I wouldn't have another chance so first (only? :() daughter it was :p
We seem to have a "first and last letters of the first name are vowels" one, but it may change in the future... And hey, we've gone "I, A" so far, maybe we'll spell Ianto's name out in all our kids' initials
Second names are after parents and grandparents.
We somehow managed to both names to have a y in them but not sure if we will keep that going :-)
Tenibear that is the most awesome way to name your kids I named ds after a character in stargate universe but was also biblical we were hoping to ttc this bubba on the tardis so we could have a timelord baby but no such luck lol
