Help would love some advice on a 'missed' miscarriage.

Hi, this is my first post and I hope I have put it in the right place.
I would love some advice as I'm very confused, I have been told by my ob/gn that I have had a missed miscarriage as on Monday I had my first appointment at 9weeks but they could not find a heartbeat, bub measured 8wks,4days they looked on the ultrasound so quickly it was such a shock to be told it hadn't made it esp as it was right size for my dates. My ob/gn wanted to book a d&c but i kept thinking they just couldn't find heartbeat :(
My gp did bloodtest 48 hrs apart and has just told me my levels have dropped. I'm heartbroken, but should I go by the levels are these always an indication? or do another scan? i think my ob/gn is annoyed I don't trust him :/ any advice please.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so heartbreaking to be told that your baby hasn't made it.

The HCG levels increase every 48 hours, If your levels are decreasing this is a sign that you have miscarried.

Honestly darl, if you're not absolutely sure, then request a confirmation scan. You don't want to be forever wondering if it was real y'know? It doesn't matter what the OBGYN thinks, if YOU aren't sure, get another scan.

Thanks so much, I've read so much info this week and I think it's confused me more wasn't sure with the hcg results as I read somewhere that after 8 weeks they weren't a clear indication. Although I'm probably hoping for a miracle.
I would love any thoughts on a d&c or waiting for nature, I've never had general anaesthetic so I'm nervous about the next step :(

i had a d&c, i just wanted it all to be over, and i was haveing horrendous morning sickness, WAY worse than anything i had with DD, which was another reason i was so shocked..
i was so scared too, i wanted DH to come with me but they dont let you do that :( but they were so lovely, and it was all over very quickly!

I've had 4 natural miscarriages and 1 d&c. I honestly don't know which I prefer, there are pros and cons for both. My d&c was after 7 weeks of bleeding, so it was nice that it was finally over and I could work on moving on. Waking up after the procedure was horrendous emotionally though, I just felt so empty :cry: My naturals were more of a personal experience, rather than a medicalised one, so that was good. But not knowing if there was going to be another clot when I went to the toilet was hard, it was almost like being stabbed every time I went to the toilet.

It's a very personal decision, and not one that needs to be made today. Have a think over the weekend with your partner. Don't forget, once you've had confirmation, there are medications you can take that will speed up a 'natural' miscarriage, if you'd prefer not to have surgery but don't want it to drag on. Ask your OBGYN about all your options, and if you still feel that he's annoyed with you for asking - get another OBGYN :hug:

I recon go have another scan at a place with good scanner levels do normally drop at this stage because the placenta starts kicking in unless they've dropped quite low but hey nothing wrong with a second opinion sorry you have to go through this oxo

I've only had a D&C recently, but my understanding is that waiting for natural can be quite painful... I really wanted to avoid that additional trauma which us why I chose to have the D&C. Also as it is a missed miscarriage, you don't know how long it's going to be until the bleeding starts and I wanted it done straight away.

I know how you feel though, even now... Sometimes I wonder if it was all a big mistake and maybe if I had done another test or waited it would have been okay. I had a heartbeat and then a week later it was gone, so even though I knew rationally it was over, it's natural to be worried and upset. My doc was really good though and said I could do either way... Although when going for surgery did day he thought this was the better option. For me, I agree. But you need to heal in your own way. It is so challenging and stressful and overwhelming, so look after yourself.

I have till Monday night to decide as my obgyn has left paperwork for either a follow up scan or d&c, I'm annoyed with myself for not writing my levels down but didn't sound like a dramatic drop:( I'm hoping my body will give me some indication to help me decide.
my DH wants to move on with the hope to conceive again soon as we have a almost 3yr old boy and have been trying for our second for almost a yr :(

Thanks 'My Turn' must of been such a shock after you had heard a heartbeat already xo and yes he mentioned it could take up to 4 weeks to have a natural miscarriage, I'm not sure emotionally I could handle that :( he only gave me the option of d&c not any medication either.

Hi Bluewrenee, Im so sorry you have found BellyBelly under the loss of your baby and not happier times :comfort:

As others have said, only your and your DH can make the decision. If you want a second look just to be sure then request another scan. HCG dropping is an accurate indicator, Im so sorry :hug:
Like your OBGYN said it can takes weeks. I waited 4.5 weeks and nothing happened, not even a bit of spotting so had to have a D&C in the end anyway. It was mentioned that sometimes natural miscarriage may not happen at all and a D&C is necessary. :hug:
