Doctor prescribed me duromine.....
I am currently 79kg - I am 176cm tall and my BMI is well within the healthy range. I went to the doctor a few weeks ago and had the annual blood tests - my colesterol, etc are all excellent - I mentioned that I would like to lose weight but it doesn't want to come off for me so she offered a script for duromine.
I didn't even know what it was, she listed off some of the side effects which are nothing compared to what you read online....:o
I took the script telling her I intended looking into it further.
Thing is, everything I read says it's for people who are seriously obese which doesn't describe me at all.
Do you think this is irresponsible practice?
I think where she was coming from was the kick start to weight loss to give me motiviation, but still not sure.......
Re: Doctor prescribed me duromine.....
Hey there
I went on the jap (depo provera) and gained 15kgs from it, when I changed nothing about my lifestyle! My doctor said that weight gain is a side effect of this but I didn't think that it would be so much.
I sm now over weight and cannot shift it and my doctor has not offered duromine for me.
Does anyone know a doctor that will prescribe this?
thanks in advance
Re: Doctor prescribed me duromine.....
Duromine is possibly the worst drug I have ever seen! Seriously its used by a lot of long haul truck drivers to stay awake. My Mum was prescribe Duromine many years ago and her specialists said that this caused some of her heart problems, including heart attacks! Whatever you do, stay away from this drug, its not worth it in the long term. You will lose weight while on the drug but the minute you stop, it all goes back on, so you start a nasty cycle!
Re: Doctor prescribed me duromine.....
Sorry to revive an old thread! I have just been prescribed, I'm 71kg and 168cm tall. I started weight watchers two weeks ago and have lost 2kg, so I don't think I need it, and I didn't ask for it (I was at the docs for a kidney infection). I was thinking of using it when I plateau (I always do) but that looks like a bad idea! He also prescribed 30mg, I would have thought starting at a lower dose is normal? Anyway, I'm already moody and have trouble sleeping, so I think I'll just keep going with what I'm doing, it's just tempting because I've been given the sample.
If anyone is on it and it's going well, or badly, more stories would be good. I've had a look through even older threads but it seems like the active ingredient has changed.
