We have a huge crack in our kitchen window from a gold ball (silly DH) My question is, who can replace them? Just an ordinary glass guy? Or do we need someone specific because it's an old window?
The house is about 30-40 years old so the glass is really thin.
Normal glass repairer will know how to do it hun, our place is a 50s weatherboard and we had to replace a few when we renovated (um nail gun anyone? :rofl:) so they should be fine!!

Our guy was a friend of my parents so he did it really cheap for us, basically no labour charge sorry!
I'd love an idea on price for replacing a window too. DS broke one today with a darn shoe :( Not a small window either...
Do you have home and contents insurance?
If its $$ they may help cover it apart from the excess.
Our house was built in the 40s and we need to replace some glass. 6 windows is costing us 1k. 3 windows are opaque, and 2 are close to a door so have to be safety glass.
you can just ring them and get a quote if you tell them the size of the window
...or you could do it yourself? we have done all of ours in our houses (we had a 1940s place and now have a 1912 place). our frames are wooden so you putty them in (the glass that is!). we went to a glass window place gave our measurements and went from there. it cost us $50 :)
We replaced a window in our old house which was broken by DS and a frisbee. ;) The window was approximately 1m x 80cm and the dude recommended safety glass as we have kids and the widow was low so they could possibly fall through it. (Should have seen the massive, sharp shards from the original window - could have done some real damage to a body!) The cost was $180, was about three years ago now. Was cheaper to pay for the window than the excess on our home insurance.
Thats not too bad Nickle. I rent, so can't really choose what glass they put in though. You'd think being family/community housing they'd use safety glass anyway...
I think it is law to replace all glas that is under 1.2high with safety glass, we where renting in perth and rung the rental agency because we where not allowed to get work done on the property without their consent and the house owner offered to pay for it under their insurance! was very nice of them. worth a try first
