I always thought it was 14 and 9 months however based on this lit. from industral relations thats not the case.
I also called FWA who told me that basically as long as its not affecting the child/young person health, safety or welfare or wellbeing and there is no OHS risks/issues, they that appears to be the case.

I think 14,9m is young enough! I wouldn't personally like it any younger.
It used to be 14yrs9mths, I think they actually increased it to 15 a while ago didn't they?
But there are other exceptions - like paper route sort of things, that younger children can do, so there must be leeway in there somewhere...
In Victoria you have to over 15 unless your employer has special permission and there are some jobs you are not allowed to do.
Also jobs that if you are under 11 you are not allowed to do, eg paper rounds.
There are some areas that this does not apply to that involves entertainment but still has restrictions.
It looks like NSW has different laws to Victoria
You are right. According to FWA different states are governed by different rules.:
There is a just 11 year old girl working at the grocery here - she was 10 when she started which I thought was illegal.
In WA it was (when I started working) 14 & 9 months in retail and 13 & 9 months in fast food.
