I just got back from my OB appt and hes put me on twice daily blood pressure tablets as my BP was higher than usual today.
Im a high BP virgin, what is likely to happen - early arrival of bubs?
Anyone been on tabs for this and its been controlled? Or has it just developed into pre-eclampsia?
He tells me I may have an underlying high BP problem that hasnt been picked up yet.
i was on BP meds with my DS from 6w. they had to adjust the dose once or twice but my BP was kept well in check for the PG. my GP said that sometimes BP problems can stem from some sort of kidney problem that isn't diagnosed during childhood so she included a scan of my kidneys on the referral for my 20 week scan (but was all clear). they decided it was just PG-induced. i never got to the pre-eclampsia stage (i think because the meds controlled it so well) but i did have to do a 24 hour urine collection so they could check for protein (it goes along with a blood test from memory) - it's more thorough than a normal pee test they often do at later appts. i also had GD so had some extra monitoring for both BP as well as the things they worry about for GD. and everything was fine :) i was induced on my due date but that was more to do with the GD & being on insulin.
i think if your BP continues to rise/can't be controlled then they will look at an early arrival but i'm not 100%.

You won't neccessarily get pre eclampsia ( esp if you didn't have it the first time).
Some people get gestational hypertension ( high bp in pregnancy) and some have an underlying predisposition as Sloane said.
Your Dr will be monitoring your bloods etc and growth of baby, you may need to be induced early if babies growth slows but heaps of people are on BP meds through pregnancy and go to term or near term. there would have to be major problems for them to do anything now. I see lots of patients whose BP is controlled by tablets so good luck hun xx

My family has a history of high BP during pregnancy. With my first I was just monitored he was induced at 39wks as my BP rose a lot in the week prior.
With DS2 I was on Aldomet from mid 2nd trimester I was going to be induced at 40wks 3 days as even on the meds it had started to get high but labour started in the early hours.
I had no signs of high BP through either of my pregnancies. Towards the end of both I had taken on a lot of water but no dizziness etc.
I have now been left with high BP & take BP medication full time but again it's more family genetics.
My sister was on bed rest for 6 wks in hospital & my niece was born 3 wks early due to high BP.
You will just be monitored regular BP checks, protein in your water & any signs of pre-eclampsia. Don't stress over it if you can - easier said than done but it won't help. Mine goes up with the thought if it being taken & the electric ones make it worse. My BP is better with a stethoscope lol.
